    What about all the kids have their mothers surname? Hyphenate them and have both? I doubt a child would be bullied about surnames. Kids don't question those things usually.

    My Brother and SIL arent going to have kids so our name will end...my 'dad' is a terrible person so its not a bad thing!! I was so glad when i got married so i could change my name!!

    My hubby has a sister and we have a little girl. So his family name will probably stop with him. Doesn't bother him at all.

    As a teacher, I agree with this. I also never assume that a child's name will match either parents' as families come in all shapes. Your kids will probably be asked why their names don't match, but not bullied over it.

    As to how their siblings will treat them, well that's really going to come down to how you and your wife treat/discuss the reasons for the difference.
