Maybe.. But she also knew in advance she was going on the tour, knew in advance she would want to pump.. Maybe she could have given them a courtesy call to let them know in advance & they may have been more accommodating.

Sure the staff could have handled things differently and treated her with more respect. However, she made the decision to go to the festival and pump whilst there. What did she expect? its a festival of course there's going be portaloos.
I personally wouldn've expected anything more. I too hate portaloos there absolutely disgusting, but if I decided I was going to a festival then portaloos it is.

It kinda sounds as though the staff member was taken by surprise, and were a bit embarrassed themselves, so didn't really handle it too well, I take the point about it being a festival, I guess I keep thinking about a more restaurant type of setup.

Quite seriously, you're welcome to have a different opinion! The way I see it is she was at a festival, at a winery, she knew what to expect & if she had special needs give them a call so they can make arrangements.

Yeah why not! my friend decided she was going to a concert whilst she was doing IVF. She had to take her syringes (sorry if that's not he right terminology) with her. It stated when booking that you couldn't just get up out of your seat and go to the toilet. Se rang and explained her situation, they happily offered to put her syringes in the fridge and someone would come to her when she needed to go to the toilet.

I suspect some might need to educate themselves on the definition of discrimination. In the Qld Anti Discrimination Act, Discrimination is defined as 'less favourable treatment on the basis of an attribute', one of which is breastfeeding. (Case law has confirmed that breastfeeding can include expressing milk). In this situation, I think the winery clearly treated the woman less favourably on the basis of breastfeeding / pumping through the offensive comments as well as the refusal of a reasonable request for a clean private area to pump.

A PP also made a comment to the effect that the woman could surely have gone 8 hours without pumping without her breasts 'exploding'. Don't know about other but my 4 month old was being fed pretty damn regularly and of I had gone without feeding or expressing for 8 hours I would have been in significant pain.

Finally, I agree with those PP who have commented on the grossness of portaloos at festivals! Wouldn't want to get my boobs out to pump in them! In addition pumping can take some time... Imagine the crowds bashing on the ports loo door after 10 minutes of furious expressing lol!

How do we know that staff member wasn't rude to 20 other non-bf festival-goers that day? She may have been treating the bf mum the same way she treats every customer. It's bad customer service but it certainly can't automatically be labelled as discrimination.
