Default Help needed: constipated 5 month old

Hi! I have a 5 month old who is always constipated. She doesn't seem to be in any pain ATM but all she seems to pass are soft nuggets. (Sorry for the tmi!)

She has been on infants friend a lot as she had bad wind problems. She is now on lactose free formula for her eczema...

As soon as we try to reduce the infants friend from every bottle to half of her bottles she gets bound up.

I have tried brown sugar and it works a treat and I know prune juice and apple juice etc will help but I don't feel comfortable with constantly giving her sugar...

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows of anything g else to try or if I should just get over it and give her juice / sugar constantly?

    Not sure what to do

Thank you for any advice in advance!

Coloxyl works great both my dd and DS get bound up. My DD got so bad at 6 months that she would vomit everything she ate or drank she ended up needing an enema by the paed once that was given we didn't have troubles again until she was 2 she is now 3 and needs suppositories every few days but now she holds it for attention rather than because she can't poo.

Have you thought about starting some solids and giving her some steamed pear? My gp and pead always said anytime after 4 months try (certain) foods before any medications. I totally agree I always felt more comfortable trying to help my dd with certain foods first then of course if that doesn't work obviously you would have to intervene with meds etc. eg. Pear for constipation apple/rice purée for diarrhea.
The best thing is that it can't do any harm. Good luck op

She has started a little food but still spits it out. Also I was told be a few people not to give her fruits first as she'll always want sweet stuff..

Does she's drink her formula well? You could add a bit more water to it. That can help get things moving.
    Or as pp said
Coloxyl drops. Or some prune/pear... lactulose is good too.

Coloxyl is safe on the long term as it's not a laxative just a stool softener my DS has been on it for almost 4 months.
