I hadn't read all the replies! I try not to comment about taxes because I know my opinion will upset a lot of people.

So funny that people think that drug abusers and alcoholics are having this great cruisey life, sitting around, doing drugs, getting Newstart and having sooo much fun in the process.

Makes me wonder if the people imply that kind of thing have actually had anything whatsoever to do with addiction. When you watch someone going through it, it is awful, it is a wasted shell of a life, there is no happiness and fun, you are basically watching someone commit suicide really slowly and bringing everyone else who is close to them down with them. It is a living nightmare.

Couldn't agree more beebs. My brother did his best to drag us all down, particularly my poor mother. It was like a slow suicide and in the end it was almost a relief as now we ALWAYS know where he is. Sad and pathetic really.

I think you've got the right idea, sometimes offering up a different opinion just isn't worth the hassle!

Maybe it isn't the difference of opinions that people have a problem with - but the way said opinions are delivered.

Since you keep bunging on about it, there is no issue with talking about "tax dollars" and how they are being spent by the government. The issue is "YOUR tax dollars" (no such thing) and how they are being donated to junkies bank accounts.

You know these types of passive aggressive posts are getting really frustrating. These types of threads are often robust and passionate with people with different life experience and viewpoints making contributions.

Reading along and making comments every now and then about how you never comment because someone didn't agree with you is *not* not commenting. It's actually coming across as quite snarky.

There are two ways that these threads can be approached:

    1. I stick by my opinion and I don't care what anyone else thinks (which is fine)

    2. I stick by my opinion but am willing to learn from and engage with others with differing opinions (also fine)

But with either option people will genuinely be interested in what your viewpoints are, how you come to have them, what information you have to back your claims. That's kind of the purpose of these kinds of threads. In general, where people disagree or react to something that's been said, they try to explain where they are coming from.

If that's not your bag, and for many people it isn't, then I would suggest avoiding these types of discussions.
