    Default Mouth Ulcers

My 3.5yo gets mouth ulcers fairly regularly and they make her absolutely miserable. Is there something I could give her to prevent getting them in the first place? She is completely healthy otherwise (apart from ENT issues), has a pretty good diet and eats lots of fruit, veg, meat, grain etc, and we brush her teeth regularly. Could she be deficient in something?

    Google aphthous ulcers.

Can be linked to systemic disorders but also to vitamins deficiencies in iron, folate, vit b & c, and zinc.

Tooth brushing and mouth washes can make them worse.

i suggest getting the Dr to check them over. sounds like bubba has a good diet but you never know, a kids multivitamin might help out.

    good luck x

I cant really comment of children but i suffer from mouth ulcers and they are the worst thing ever. So painful and makes it hard to eat and sometimes even talk.
I usually get them if im run down. If i havent eaten right and not had great sleep for a few days, Bang, one will come up.
Is she sleeping well? Has she got alot of activities on that is making her tired?

I would take her to the dr. There is *something* I remember reading about there being an actual condition which results in constant mouth ulcers or frequently reoccurring.
Have you ever heard of kenalog mouth gel?

When I used to get them and when my kids get them...we rinse with warm salty water 3-4 times per day.
I believe it's lack of vitamins and stress/feeling down that causes them.

Eta...I just noticed your dd has ent issues, my ds was the same throughout his toddler and childhood...I wonder if the meds cause mouth ulcers?

hi, there was some thing in the vitamins aisle, Lysene?? Ly-sean?? something like that. it was recommended to me as a preventer. the dose was one tablet a day, everyday, to reduce the number of ulcers and to reduce the severity of them. For myself and for my four children, I would have spent a small fortune to have given it a serious try, so I cant say if it works or not. I found being outdoors (kids all playing hockey) was the main trigger. We all started using chapstick, or just vasiline to keep the lips covered and that worked quite well. Didn't stop all the ulcers for everyone, but did reduce them. Marie.

Thanks everyone - I will have a look into all the suggestions. The poor little mite - DH and I both get them so we can both sympathise that they are so painful. She stopped dead in her tracks during ballet today and her hand flew up to her mouth so I know it's hurting her a lot.

She's always been an excellent sleeper but she has been sick a lot because of ENT issues so maybe that's contributing. She just had more permanent grommets put in last week so hopefully that will help things.

I think youre confusing mouth ulcers with coldsores, Marie
You mean Lysine? The medication for coldsores which are on the outside of the mouth/lips. Ulcers are the ones on the inside of the mouth, kind of like a blister on the gums/cheeks/tongue. Sooo painful
