That's so weird! Maybe indicative of my totally split personality?!

Someone else has that happen too, I'm sure of it...

Just curious to how teachers choose split classes and their students. Ie a year 4/5 class for example.. Are the year 4s more academically achieving of their age and the 5s less so? Or are those 5s considered more able to work on their own at a higher level? No real reason behind this as dd1 is in a straight year x class. Just a random thought

The teachers told us last week that if one of our kids were chosen to go into the K/1 class it would be because they thought they could cope socially and emotionally. That could just be our school and that grade though.

I've been in 2 split classes and they were chosen in different ways.

The first, I was in yr 1 in a k-1 class and the yr 1 kids were the top of the grade and able to work alone quite easily, there was no reason for the kindy kids. This worked well.

The second, I was in yr 4 in a 4-5 class. The yr 4 kids were chosen, once again, because we were top of the grade, but the year 5 kids were generally struggling and many had behavioural issues. They did it that way in the hope of the yr 4 kids encouraging the older ones, but it didn't work at all. Instead, we were influenced by them and played up a bit more.

My brother was also put in a composite class in yr 4. It was a 4 and 6 class, made up of the smartest of each year. That didn't work as the age gap was too big and caused many behavioural issues with the younger kids.
