Thanks ladies! I had a brainwave last night in the middle of the night that I was sure the extended period was 4 years and the initial manufacturer's warranty was two years (not one as DH had insisted). Checked the paperwork - DH has never been so happy to be wrong!

They're going to come out Wednesday to have a look at it. If, as suspected, it's really truly buggered then they'll replace it with a new one!

Phew! So relieved at having a bit of time before we absolutely *have* to spend that money. Will definitely keep the recommendations in mind for when the time comes though thanks!

    Hooray for warranty!!!

For future reference stay away from Fisher and Paykal. They were bought out 2 years ago by Haier and are now cheap China made crap. Its a real shame :/

Thanks, that's good to know - we were being told by the repair guy how great and long lasting they are!

He came out yesterday and checked over the machine, confirmed what we already knew - it's a goner we'll apparently be getting a voucher to go and buy a new one of our choice from Harvey Norman under warranty. hopefully the approval for that won't take too long - I'm going to have to track down a laundromat this weekend, laundry pile is almost at critical mass haha!
