Default Townsville Maternity Unit - Public

    Hi there,

I am currently 26 weeks and we have just found out we will be moving to Townsville for my husbands work. I am chasing any information about services etc. available in Townsville through the public system. I have tried looking on the QH site but all the information seems to be outdated. Any information would be appreciated! thanks

I'm in Townsville and 32 weeks. I'm going public through the high risk clinic because I have a thyroid thing. The hospital mainly does shared care, there is a midwife program and a birth suite but I'm not sure if you're too late for that.

I got a hospital tour with my antenatal class, I'm not sure if you need to be booked in before you can book those but you could give them a call to find out.

Overall, I've been happy with them. The waits can be a bit long but that's it. Eat me know if you have anymore questions and I'll do my best.

Also, if you don't know anyone, I'm happy to meet up so you've got one friendly face in town.

There's a Birth Centre, which may be full and then I'm guessing probably a midwife clinic and then GP share care or high risk obstetrics for antenatal care wise.

In terms of services and facilities Townsville is the tertiary referral hospital for Far North Queensland (equivalent to Mater and RBWH in Brisbane) so will cater for any sort of obstetric or neonatal problems.

Give the hospital a ring and ask for the antenatal clinic - you'll be able to talk a midwife there about how you transfer your care and what options are available for you
