Question Ideas for my 40th Birthday.... gulp!

I am not generally into big crazy parties, and would *possibly* like to slip under the radar with this one as well, but it seems quite a few people are pretty keen to celebrate this one with me.

I reckon I've been through a lot these past 5 or so years, and actually deserve a bit of a celebration, but can't really think of a good way to celebrate.

If you have had a *ahem* mature Birthday celebration what did you do?

I'm tossing up between a nice dinner somewhere... yeah, kinda boring... or maybe taking myself off somewhere amazing for a weekend... not sure!!

    Any ideas??

I organised a dinner party out with friends. We had an upstairs room to ourselves with a balcony and had a meal and drinks package. We had cocktails at nearby bars pre and post dinner and had a great night. Mum and Dad had the kids for the night.

I also had a lovely family lunch out the weekend before to celebrate with them and the day of my birthday DH took the day off work and organised a lovely gourmet picnic followed by birthday cake with the kids.

I had a 2 week old ds at my 40th. My dd came home and just had family time.

I would go away for the weekend if could. That sounds wonderful.

I'm going away for mine, I'm in denial.

I recommend a party if others are kern to celebrate with you!

Have you you seen the movie 'This is 40?' Hilarious. Made me feel better about approaching 40.

I would be organising a weekend away. I'm hitting 40 this year too. I'm planning a trip away for a few weeks with the kids and a few close friends.

I had a lovely bday only recently. Same as you- kinda wanted to pretend it wasn't happening. But DF organised a day of Sunday afternoon lawn bowls at a really nice green. We had cheap drinks and lots of platters of nibbles and cocktail food.
It was really laid back and a lovely afternoon with friends and family.

For my 30th I was living in the UK and went to Pisa for my 30th (with exH). The plan was to be able to say I'm 30 but THAT'S THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA!! Fast forward 10 years and I had a different partner (DF), a 3 year old, 7 months pregnant and a cold. We went to Hervey Bay for teh weekend to do whale watching. The actual day was too rough for the boat to go out (but I did get have 2 nanna naps that day!!) so we went out on the boat the next day. Unfortunately I suffered with some sea sickness so it sounds awful but wasn't really that bad. I sat at the back of the boat sucking on ice cubes and got to see a few whale pods. DF sat up the front with DS and got to see a lot more whales.

Remember, you're only a day older than what you were the day before.
