Honestly though, it's just ludicrous that parties can outright lie their way through an election campaign just to win, with no intention of honouring their promises! What's the flippin' point?? May as well just vote for best dressed, or coolest sunnies.

Should be an automatic double dissolution if they lie on major promises.

Did anyone just catch the clip that The Project Played of Bill Shorten calling Joe Hockey fog horn leg horn? Lol thank god he seems as horrified as most of us about their plans to screw the average family and anyone who isn't rich.

The scary thing is he indicated he would do that when he and Julia Gillard were jostling to get the support of the independents to form a minority government. The independents said Abbot had said to them he would do anything to win.

I have to stop myself reading comments on social media about this, some of them are just so.......uneducated. I fail to see how anyone could think this budget is ok, regardless of if it affects you personally or not a) he has completely back tracked on almost everything he promised before the election. How can even Lib voters not find that offensive? And b) this is breaking down everything that has made our country great. Universal healthcare, affordable education -even for those who grew up in poverty etc. Education and Health should never be only for the rich - which is what happens in America - and look at that disaster of a country.

beebs i'm with you. I can't read anymore social media promoting this budget. I've had to remind myself that people can vote for, or support whoever they choose. I just wish before making that decision, people would actually do some fact finding of their own, research and educate themselves and then decide, rather than just parroting what Murdoch media has told them! Or some stupid website has told them to believe!

I know. Four words, 'the power of media'

One word, 'ignorance'. (If I've not experienced it, then why should I try to care? (Or try to think about anyone else or how this country actually effectively operates outside of my own lovely world ).

I agree! Unfortunately a lot of people aren't able to think for themselves. It actually goes to show how much a good education system is a requirement for any country so that people are able to think for themselves, learn new things, question what they are taught in a safe environment etc.

I got soooo peeved off with a woman at my work (she's 61) who said the day after the Budget was announced - I think it's good!.....

This coming from a woman whose husband earns over $300k a year and who owns a multi-million dollar property without a mortgage! Of course she spouted the - but I grew up with nothing line - blah blah blah! Uuuuum you married a ridiculously smart man when you were 21 who has been earning ridiculous amounts of money most of his adult life, I got so angry when she spun that line! She's the perfect example of idiots who can't see past the end of their own nose (though she's in the extremely wealthy category - not just the well off, financially secure category).

Y do you all call people uneducated or ignorant if they don't agree with your pov....
Just because some people still like liberal and the budget doesn't make them either. Maybe they have done the research and agree.... Maybe they have different focuses in life and think the "nothing is free" slogan is true.

I can relate to a lot of what you have said, I grew up in a poor single parent household, my dad died suddenly when we were little.

The difference between you and me is, my experiences have made me more empathetic, not less.

I understand that things happen sometimes, things that we don't plan, accidents, illness etc. I also understand that some people are just bludgers and don't want to work. But I don't think punishing those that really need our help just because there are a few dodgy people out there is the way to go.

A country is only a strong as it's weakest link, the more healthy and educated people we have, the better off we all will be.

Please believe me, I am not jealous of you, although I do appreciate what you have done though. All the education in the world will not give you empathy though, and that is a pity.
