Yep, I've seen the Thermomix a few times too. Being in marketing/communications I have to wonder how much these brands pay to be involved with the show and whether it influences how the segments are edited together, i.e. brands pay for placement/air time. Cynical, I know, but I remember reading an article about it after the second season and the sponsorship deals then were worth huge amounts of money.

I'm guessing the contestants didn't get to go overseas this year because QANTAS isn't involved in the show?!

    Other popular gadgets:
Sous vide machine (DH would really like one of those)
    blow torch
air canister thingy (sorry, baby brain, I can't think of what's it called but they use it for creating foams)

Very cynical, Cat74...but it would not surprise one bit. I had not even thought of that!! Very clever. The show is clearly a big money-making machine, and the cost of all those w*nky appliances (ensuring one for each contestant), would be phenomonal without "sponsorship". Coles gets a big wrap, do we think all that food is donated by Coles? (I am a Safeway/Woolworths girl myself...Coles never seems to have fresh stuff...nothing like the Masterchef pantry!!).

@J37 if the produce at Coles (or Woolies for that matter) looked half as good as that in the Masterchef pantry I would definitely buy it from there. I go to the local butcher and green grocer instead. Much better quality!!! Every time I've shopped for fresh stuff at the supermarket I've been disappointed.

Definitely.. past seasons they all used Breville stand mixers, this year they have a deal with Kenwood so they all have Kenwood Titanium mixers, to the point where they were using the Kenwood in Vue De Monde and the other offsite shoots they did, there's no way you'd use a Kenwood in a commercial kitchen (even though I have one and love it).
In the studio, out the back where they store everything there are about 50 mixers etc, so it would be a big contract for whoever got it.
