    Emilia, topknot and Amy.

I would like Laura to be there but I doubt it.

If I went to the pub and ordered surf n turf and ended up with pork and scollops, I would be pretty annoyed.

Should Laura not have her hair tied back or in a net?
So easy for a loose hair to end up in the pasta.

I think that in every challenge. Put your hair up!!!
I think Topknot as token male, Laura as the young one and either Emelia or Amy

Well, this year is a male's turn to win. So, based on that... I think Topknot (even though he's not the best in the competition...cook that is!), and Laura. Not sure about the third place. Robot is very calm but seems to have lost her mojo. Tracey and Amy get very stressy. Downward Smile and Ben are both quite hit and miss but take risks which may help them get through. I don't think the 'favourite' has ever won in the end though...

You'd be right about that! I just had to look at a list of previous winners to check but when I did I realised that none of them were the strongest cooks for their year.

In case anyone else wants a refresher:
MC1 Julie Goodwin (used to sweat into her food, was in basically every elimination challenge throughout the show)
MC2 Adam Lieu (great on the Asian dishes but had lots of risky disasters along the way)
MC3 Kate Bracks (great at desserts/sweets but a bit meh with everything else)
MC4 Andy Allen (nice to look at, don't really remember him being an outstanding cook, although got better towards the end)
MC5 Emma Dean (fluster queen, it's a wonder she didn't set the kitchen on fire every episode)

So @harvs if Andy Allen could do it, I reckon Top Knot is a real chance.

yep agree. I don't think any of those guys deserve to be in the final three as much as the girls but they will have to have at least one in the final for gender representation. Brent's dishes are so old school 90's style I don't know how he has made it this far, and the others are so pedestrian too... But all those girls have done consistently well so any three if them would be final 3 contenders.

I literally stared at this for at least a minute trying to work out who Brent is...

I was thinking that too! I mean, no one, NO one would have expected him to win. I was so glad he did though - I despised No-Smiles Overconfident Dessert who he was up against. But yeah, Topknot reminds me a bit of Andy that way. And he does have really nice plating skills I think.

In terms of who has like 'future media star potential' that if we were cynical we'd think might be 'selected' to win, I'd have to say he's up there as well.

I'm trying to remember about gender balance in the finals too. I know first year it was Julie and Poh, then next year was Callum and Adam. Didn't watch last year - was it balanced?

@harvs, last year it was between Emma and Lynton (the stockman); the year before that it was between Andy and Julia (legal secretary who didn't exactly come across as "miss personality").

I'm wondering if Emma got there in the end because she came across a bit like a mad professor, loveable, zany and a bit out there. I don't think Lynton had that real "media star" potential. And Andy the year before, well, he always came across as a good bloke, good looking and quite well spoken.

I think that's why Emelia has blown it for this year. You'd think, you know, she works in marketing, she should be able to sell herself, but she comes across as someone who would be difficult to be around - her way or the highway. I think that's why Julia (from Andy's year) bombed out too.
