I'd be interested to know what they say. It's one part of being a landlord that's tricky. We had a rental on a main-ish road in Melbourne and told our tenants everything going on as tram works were constantly being done. But yeah I don't know about your case. I can't see why a landlord wouldn't tell you given it's not something they can hide but it's also not something they can control.

As my son would say, it's tricky.

Will definitely let you know ..
Apparently it's going to be 9 months of building so it's not quick.

I'm in qld and about 100m from us someone is clearing their land and will be building. We received a letter in the mail last week to say it would be happening this week. I'm not sure on rules or legalities but I appreciated the heads up.

    Our next door neighbours renovated.
They started the week my first son was born. They had some health issues happen, so then the Reno went on for just over 2 years.
Yes. The renovation was still happening when my second son was born.
Was unfortunate the neighbour was on the side of our bedrooms as well. Made nap times kind of tricky.

wait - so the RE had the previous tennants moving out because of this demolition .... and they didnt tell you anything about it when you applied?

Thats ... ummm .... pretty unethical to say the least.

I would think that they would only have to give notice if they owned the property. It has nothing to do with them, they have no control over the next door neighbour demolishing the house. Why should they suffer a penalty ? Doesn't seem fair either way.

    Yes exactly!
So they timed it perfectly... So I would be in before it started...

In nsw the law states that any building work that has been notified to the owner, has to be advised to the new tennant.

I thought it was the case as another house I looked at was $500 a week but huge and the agent told me it was reduced as building work would be starting within 3 months of me moving in.
