    Exclamation morning sickness with reflux

    Hi.

I have a situation that I am hoping someone out there has some advice that can help me. Since early this year I have been suffering from reflux, the symptom being coughing. For some reason, my stomach is occasionally sending food up my oesophagus, as the valve or muscle isn't keeping it out. I don't know why, and the tests to find out why cannot be done during pregnancy. Also the medication that helps cannot be taken throughout pregnancy.

so my issue is this... with my last pregnancy, when i would vomit due to morning sickness, i would feel sick, and have time to get to a bathroom or sink. now with these reflux issues, i don't feel sick. just feel a cough, cough a second later, and a second later I'm puking everywhere, no matter where i am. it has only recently started and i am finding it very difficult to deal with.

i would love any advice that you may have to offer. other than having spew bags strapped to me at all times, i can not see an easy way to deal with this.

please help! and thank you for your help! :-)

Are you not taking Mucogel or Gaviscon or similar? Are these helpful?

i havent tried any of these as the morning sickness is new. i spoke to the chemist about the reflux before the morning sickness though and he thinks they will be of no use. it isn't something that happens after meals or at another predictable time. it can be at any time of the day or night. usually i wake coughing at least 3 times a night. taking something like gavascon won't be useful in my situation. i just drink and drink until the cough is wet.

I had bad acid reflux throughout my second pregnancy. Is it similar to that?

I had similar reflux to you the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Waking up coughing up bile. And coughing all day. I took about 8 gaviscon tablets a day and it helped a bit. It doesn't matter that you don't think it happens after meals, it's still reflux and the gaviscon will help
I wouldn't be drinking help of fluids, it will make it worse
I found that fatty foods and sugar made it worse. I slept with two pillows and that helped a bit too. I also found blackmores ginger tablets that I had left over from Morning sickness helped.
It will go as soon as bub is out, I promise xxx

it is not fun! At least if it doesn't, I can get to the cause of the reflux after the baby is here. Radiation and babies aren't the best of friends... :-(

I am not pregnant at the moment but have been having the same problem with reflux and gastritis, I had a endoscopy done which diagnosed the reflux and gastritis and was told by specialist to take nexium, I am about to have a embryo transfer in about 2 weeks and my fertility Dr has said its perfectly safe to take in pregnancy. Good luck I hope it goes soon :-)

It sounds like you need something stronger. If you didn't have this before pregnancy then it will end when bub is born. I put up with it for way too long. It's just the uterus pushing up against organs. How many weeks are you?
