    Yes there is! For a little while our 1.5yr old boy used to push a dining chair into the kitchen and climb on to that to watch what we were doing. Now we have a home-made step-stool (with two steps) out of plywood about 45cm high that he climbs on to. He watches us cook and has learnt about hot and what to leave alone... and at the end of dinner he plays with the rinse water while we do the dishes.

    Here is the design we used...

    We altered the design to make the top step the same height as the dining chair.
