    Default Causes of silent reflux??

Ok, I had my second child about five days ago and now I know for sure that she got silent reflux. DS suffered from silent reflux as well since a few weeks old and only had recently grew out of it. DD's symptoms seems more severe at the moment and all I am thinking is what did I do wrong to have two reflux babies.

I was searching the internet about how to manage silent reflux and came across this article.

    http://mythnomore.blogspot.com.au/20...thout.html?m=1

Although it wasn't a scientist paper, it does got me thinking.

It says introducing formula just after birth would be the cause. With my Ds , he was given formula on second day due to my milk supply. With DD, she was given formula hours after birth because I had nothing coming out of my breast and she was hungry. Not sure if it's the coincidence or something else. Want to hear others experience, did your little ones suffered reflux and also given formula not long after birth ? What do you think?

Also, inspired by this article, I am going to try cows milk and gluten free diet. Might start taking fish oil and probiotics as well. It is so hard setting my little one constantly gagging and not being able to feed due to pain. I can't believe I am going to start the journey all again when I finally felt relieved with the absence of reflux in my son.

I'll be honest in that I havent read the whole article but I think its a load of crock. All 3 of my kids have had reflux. Only DS3 has had formula within the first week after birth.

My son has reflux, which initially presented itself silently, he also has cmpi, he didn't have formula for the first two weeks of life and still screamed constantly with it, this to me just seems like another article blaming formula for all the worlds wrongs

Load of rubbish. There is no correlation between feeding method and reflux. Bf and ff babies get it the same.

DD was bottle fed from 5 days old - no reflux
DS was given EBM for 3.5 months - severe silent reflux

Both of my kids had a bottle of formula in their first hours. DD has no reflux, food intolerances, etc. DS has GORD (vomiting kind), CMPI and intolerances to wheat and bananas (so far...).

The symptoms listed by this lady I could have written word for word. But I still don't believe it's because he was formula fed. I can say though that antibiotics in young babies can severely damage their stomach lining as was the case with my DS. Still that didn't cause his reflux he had it before.

Thanks everyone, just wanted to hear everyone else's experience. Apparently there is no such a link between ff just after birth and reflux. Thanks

And I forgot to add, reflux is caused by underdeveloped valves so the milk (be it formula or bm) blows back up. I fail to see how formula could possibly cause that? If anything, formula is thicker and heavier thus one could argue would sit in the tummy more. The fact a vast majority grow out of it, that tells me it's the valves and nothing more.

My pediatrician told us that FF babies typically have reflux more often than BF babies.....
