thanks for all the replies. we are only inviting close friends and family so I hope they understand having it on that date is important to us and I will be understanding for those who can not make it. I just hope people dont arrive complaining about it being on a Thursday. thank you all for the inputs im feeling a little bit more confident in doing what my family wants on the day and not pleasing everyone.

Go for it! I wanted a midweek wedding as most of the guests (my family) were coming from interstate so it wouldn't have mattered, but DH didn't like the idea. I think if I put it to him now and told him how much $$ we would save he would go for it lol. You can usually get really good deals/prices for having your wedding on days when it's normally quieter for the businesses.

I think if your guests have plenty of notice they can adjust themselves accordingly - ie babysitting, days off work etc (if they plan to have a good time, drink, or if you plan a mid afternoon ceremony).

The only thing I would think about is the extra traffic on the road around peak hour if you're planning to get married in the city. Might make it harder for guests to get around. Unless you plan to have the ceremony/reception in the same place so they don't have to move around in between!

Maybe you could include on your save the date card the significance of the ate so people dot immediately go "what the heck is it on a Thursday for?!"
