    Default Spelling opinion

I think we have decided on a girls name...
Malia pronounced Ma Lee a.. Not Marley a like a lot of Australians pronounce.
My best friend thinks it would pronounce easier spelt Maliya. Like Aliya with a M.
hubby and I like the simplicity of Malia but don't want it mispronounced always.
    What are ur thoughts
    thanks

I would pronounce Malia as Ma-lee-a. There are always going to be people who mispronounce the name no matter what you use.

I would pronounce it MAH-lee-a, is it supposed to be that or is it supposed to be ma-LEE-a? Is the emphasis on the ma or the lee if that makes sense? Either way you would spell it Malia. Just the problem might be (like me) people aren't sure which way to pronounce it. I certainly would say Marley.

I would pronounce Mahlia the correct way and like this way of spelling better. My daughter is Aaliyah pronounced Ah-lee-a but she gets called A-Leah or A-liar so spelling it Maliyah would probably get the same problem.

I would pronounce with the emphasis on the the Ma, no matter how it's spelt. I guess I'd be wrong, but not everyone will get it right, there's just no way of telling by just reading it.
