Teriyaki chicken and rice for me and DS1, spaghetti bolognaise for DH and DS3. And as usual, DS2 will have some veggies and whatever other food I can find that he isnt afraid to eat.

I've got some steak and I might make the shredded veg fritter things off the one handed cooks site. Hmm.. But I usually like to have at least 3 things on a plate... Ideas, anyone?

Did you make the sauce yourself? I would love the recipe (if it's not a family secret.)
I've tried a few online but can't find one that I like...

Hoping hubby will bring home Maccas, I'm still not up to cooking and am hoping that a soft cheeseburger will be edible!

*My family makes passata in huge batches that we bottle to preserve, so I use that but any Italian bottled passata that is just tomatoes, onion, garlic and herbs does the trick!.

    Sauce
Put a big glug of good olive oil into a large pot and add one finely diced onion and 2-3 cloves of garlic, plus a handful of chopped herbs - parsley, basil, oregano or whatever you have and let that soften.

Then add some bones! Either a couple of chicken drumsticks or wings, some pork rib strips or some beef bones and brown them off.

Add your bottle of passata (around 750ml) and a tin of crushed tomatoes - then half fill the sauce bottle and the tin and swish all the remaining sauce off the side and add that liquid to the pot.

Add your meatballs and let simmer slowly for as long as you can.

Remove your meat bones - we love to munch on the these but we're a bit weird!

Season with salt, pepper and a touch of sugar and serve with parmesan or romano cheese.

    Pressed send to soon lol!

I don't really have an exact recipe for the meatballs but they are a mix of pork and veal mince with breadcrumbs made from day old Italian bread, mixed with loads of parmesan, parsley, basil and a bit of mint (all dried herbs), bound with a couple of eggs then you par cook them in a pan and we freeze in batches to bust out whenever you get a craving but otherwise you just chuck them in the sauce to cook them through.
