We built our dream home 4 years ago. But we bought our block before the property market in Perth exploded.

We had very specific requirements and my family is in the building industry so building our own home was the best option

We are steering towards building. We know what we want and don't believe an existing property is out there or can be renovated to suit our needs. We have done the sums and it looks like it will cost the same. Only issue I'm having with building is the area we are looking is further out and the school whilst is a good school isn't as good as the established suburb we are looking at

Subbing! We're currently looking to build but are scared of the unexpected costs and don't want to rent while we build so are really hoping an almost finished house pops up in the area we're looking at, that ticks all of our boxes.

We found a builder who included lots of inclusions so our only extra costs were blinds, fence and landscaping. Everything else was included and they were awesome!!!! We loved it and would def build again

Just do your research on builders!!

We built, I'd never do it again. The cost blow out, the delays...: it drove me to distraction.

Thank you for your replies. For those of you who built, do you have any advice?

Things you would have done differently if you had your time again?

Our builder was awesome and we spoke to others that had used his company before to ensure his reputation was top notch. We checked out the display home thoroughly and had months of discussions before signing or committing to anything. Do your research. The right builder means you will love the journey but the wrong one will put u off for life!

I built almost two years ago. I'm unhappy now but only because of the area, make sure you do your research on the area your buying. We are currently looking at building again, I know I'm nuts!

The only thing I would do differently is hiring a building inspector, they will pick up on everything and make sure it's fixed. We had a gas leak in our kitchen just before Christmas...ridiculous!

Definately do your homework on your builder. Make sure the clause about late finishing has a ridiculous per week figure attached so they definitely pull their finger out and get it finished on time.
