Congrats JJ! Beautiful name! Sounds like a pretty eventful birth - but as you said, the main thing is bub made it safely and you're ok too

Congrats JJ on your little girl!

I am pleased to say that I too have given birth to a little girl Elizabeth (Ellie) Ann early this morning at around 2am or so. I think she was around 4.2kg but I don't know her stats and my husband isn't here to check.

I know I've written part of my birth story but I'll put it all together here.

I had a first lot of Prostin gel to soften the cervix on Sat at 10am. Sun 6am I had a second dose. I was reassessed at 5pm Sunday evening and there was no change. I had the balloon catheter inserted Sun night where it was to remain for 12 hours to manually stretch my cervix. Being in hospital and in a bit of pain I didn't sleep much on Sunday.

Monday morning my cervix had stretched to something like 1.5 cm which was enough to break my waters at 7am. I was then put on the drip and it took a while but started getting contractions. At around 4pm I was told that I was between 2-3cm. I was using gas but the contractions were quite intense and I knew I had a way to go. I thought it through and decided to have an epidural. That went in around 6pm. At 6:30 another internal was done and there had been no change. Still only 2-3 cm. The baby's head was swollen due to pressure so it was recommended I do a c-section. At this point I readily agreed. Because baby and I were relatively happy and healthy we were bumped for distressed babies and didn't end up heading down until 1:30am or so. Then after being in recovery etc I was back on the ward by 5am this morning. I still feel really out of it and can't fully process everything due to exhaustion but absolutely thrilled and have no regrets about the path we took.

    Nawwww she is gorgeous!
    Congratulations!!!!!!

I can't believe they said she was going to be so much bigger than that!!! I know the method isn't an exact science but it can affect our choices about birth so much!!

Congrats JJTiger on the safe arrival of baby Mia

Congrats hwaterhouse on the safe arrival of baby Elizabeth

Erin now weighs 3070grams. That's a gain of 310g in 6 days. Spoke to child health nurse yesterday about a few of my issues and I feel so much better about my decisions. This particular nurse gives you advice without being pushy, answers honestly and has the most practical advice for the realities of the our circumstances. We don't all live in a perfect world and she is sympathetic to that. I am seeing a lactation consultant today, I am prepared to try her advice but if things don't go well I will be happy to just stay expressing & bottle-feeding, with formula feeds when needed. Erin has never properly latched, not even once, so it might be time to face the reality that she may never do it.
Because the pump I bought is mains-powered only, I am going to have to buy an inverter for my car. The distance we have to travel to the airport for dh to go to work is quite far and I will need to express before I get home. He goes back to work next Thursday so we are starting to prepare for that. I will be alone with Erin for a week at a time as dh's work is fifo, Thankfully it's week-on week-off.
