Its stupid in a variety of ways.

Firstly the money WE earn is OURS - not his.

Secondly - why would I want to shop in a hardware store???? Now if it was a chocolate factory or a wine cellar that's another story.... ;-P

I would have raised a eyebrow and kept walking.
    They wouldn't get my business.

The funny thing is My husband has to ring me before he spends any money.

Not to get permission but to check if there is money in bank.

Meh, it was supposed to be a joke but obviously wasn't very well thought out.

They probably do have people make comments along those lines so tried to play on it.

I know when I go into kitchen/homewares shops, I think 'oops! Dh isn't going to be impressed' not because I'm not allowed to spend money without permission, but he doesn't agree that my seventh salad bowl was necessary because it matches the platter dish and cake stand that I bought on my previous shopping adventure

It's sexist and outdated. I wouldn't shop there but wouldn't probably go in and have a go- chances are you'd be telling off an employee who had no say in the sign. I would consider emailing them though.
I'm sure it was meant as a joke, but the thing is, these jokes perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

My poor hubby gets nervous too, but that also extends to spotlight, baby shops... hell, who am I kidding? He hates me going into any shop
We just bought a new lounge, so of course we needed new cushions and then I told him I need to find a new floor rug as ours doesn't match... you should have seen his face yesterday when I told him I also have to get a new table runner and placemats because the current ones aren't going to match with said rug.

I would look at it and think what a dumb sign and not waste much more of my energy on it.
It wouldnt stop me shopping there but I wouldnt rush in either. If the staff spoke to me with that outdated attitude it would turn me off the store more.

Haha honestly I'd probably take a photo and send it to my DH and say "see, they said its ok" and we'd both have a laugh.
