Default Old wives tale? Unknown Illness.

Hi mummies I'm in the very slow process of doing my family tree & more importantly, health history.

something has stumped me & I can't find any information on the internet.

When I was little, my grandma told me a story about how small she was as a child.

She said she was 16 but the size of a 6 year old & would often get teased & not let into 'dances' or the pictures because nobody would believe she was the age she was. She had trouble learning to swim at 12 years old because she couldn't touch the bottom of the pool even in the shallow end.

She was still small as an adult but within normal range, I asked her how she grew & she said she saw a doctor who gave her medication.

Does this sound legitimate to you? I've never heard anything like this before. I've been searching the internet for a while but can't find anything except failure to thrive (for babies) & dwarfism.. I don't believe she was either of these.

Have you ever heard of a condition like this and medication to 'fix' it?

I know a girl with hormonal problems, she was tiny when she was younger and now on hormone therapy - she is still small - maybe 5 foot. So that could be something similar?
