You have literally stated that people in this thread think nothing should be done but talk. You are wrong. You should own that. No body has said that at all.

You are also not telling me anything new here- I have openly said I do not know the best course of action- I'm not qualified to make such statements. It doesn't take a genius to see that what we ARE doing is not addressing the root cause of the problems in the world- and that is the only point I was making in that regard. What do you expect??

The government has never said they were addressing the root cause. They have just said that they would stop the boats. Which it looks like they have.

Why are you not at least happy that this is occurring? The government will be able to move on to your other concerns once this objective is met. One step at a time.

I would have thought the posts on Burma and Sri Lanka are addressing the "root cause" in areas where Australia has some potential influence.

In any case, saying no one has made suggestions is clearly false.

We have most definitely been engaging with Sri Lanka.

I'm afraid that's just nonsense that I doubt even Abbott would endorse. There is plently the govt can and should be doing now to improve outcomes, without compromising its immediate policy objective.

Should have known you would be behind this vitriol laden post. Your thinly veiled disgust in asylum seekers is really sad to see. Truly glad there's not more people like you in the world.

Okay, I give up. If you will not engage with the content of my posts, I see little point in pretending this is a meaningful discussion.

A final though from David Cameron on Sri Lanka:
"I am proud of the crucial role that Britain has played to secure this outcome. I said in November that we would achieve more by standing up for our values rather than sitting on the sidelines. And that is exactly what we have done," he said.
Shame our PM can't say the same.

My name was clearly in the original post. Polling would indicate that most share my views.

Why try to engage in circular arguments? I didn't say that the govt said they were addressing the root cause- I said I thought they should be.
The reason I'm not happy it's occurring is because this is not preventing people from getting on boats and fleeing- it's just preventing them from fleeing *here*- these people haven't ceased to exist. I've said this all before. Has the govt said they will be moving to address the root cause of irregular migrations? I haven't found anything that says so?

No... polling would indicate that the people polled share your views.
