Oh no MrsErin! So sorry to hear that. Can you quickly choose another donor? Sorry I can't recall your dates, although it must be soon if you already booked accommodation.
Glad they are being helpful to you though. Yes shame for the donor too.
Not much to say really except I have everything crossed for you.

MrsErinR sorry to hear about your cycle hopefully something better will come along.

Whilst I was having intralipids today I was having a good old chat with Liz, she was asking about feedback and what I thought the clinic could improve upon. So I told her about this thread, that I had started it a couple of years ago to make people aware that they did have another option to achieve their dream. I told her the feedback from the thread is basically regarding delayed planning and explained our position as follows:

We have all been through the ringer before we make this tough decision to use donor eggs so when we have made a decision its tough for us to wait, we want to get started with anticipation and excitement, mixed with trepidation and worry about coming into the unknown and she added a third world country to boot. Some ladies are only getting their plan shortly before they are due to fly out. When in reality we need it a couple of months in advance. For us we have to not only book flights, accommodation, car hire, we also have to book doctors in Australia for initial drugs and sometimes scans, and some ladies have a waitlist to see their doctors, so a delayed plan causes a huge amount of stress

Further, with regards to flights the longer it's left the higher the airfare we pay, my flights for instance went up 200 in a week whilst I was waiting to book. They do not know that here, they think the airfare is one price regardless of when we book.

She mentioned the delay in replying to emails, and said that they are trying to improve upon it. However due to sickness and holidays they do sometimes lapse. With Easter just recently and public holiday last week and tomorrow, its a bit slow at the moment. She also said that when people are away they do have cover but the other co-ordinators are just as busy so it takes a while to get through the backlog. I mentioned that we work around it by direct emailing the doctor who responds quickly.

she also said they are taking on more staff but she didn't know when this would happen just that its in the pipeline, one lady will help her out in theatre part time and the coordinators the rest of the time which should improve things a little. I suggested a co-ordinator that just dealt with Australia might be another way to go as well.

She explained the reason for the delay is the donor. They don't know how the donor is going to respond to drugs and would hate to have people fly over when the cycle could need to be cancelled or postponed, in the case of overstimulation for instance, so they can't really plan til the last minute when they know whether the donor is progressing as they should. I suggested that perhaps a more informative protocol could be put on their website to help ease the anxiety and the unknown.

She mentioned the JoBurg clinics and I told her we basically steer clear, JoBurg has such a bad reputation for being unsafe we don't really want to travel there particularly if we are on our own, not to mention the Medfem doesn't have the greatest reputation.

Liz feels that passing on this information is important and is going to report our convo to the directors. She also asked that I perhaps mention some of it to the Doc and the coordinator who in this instance is Karin as she probably isn't aware of the price hike on the flights, which when converted is a lot in their money.

she also mentioned that it would be beneficial for all of us to give some feedback to the coordinator and doctor in the hope of a speedier recruitment programme.

i think I have portrayed the general consensus on here and if I have misunderstood the feedback I apologise and let me know in the next 8 hours and I will rectify it when I go to my appointment. If I do have it right, I'm not sure what Liz can do about it, perhaps she will speak to the directors of the clinic and bring it up at a staff meeting whether it will do any good or not who knows. Liz seemed to understand where we are coming from and was concerned that feedback wasn't passed on and worried that we would give up on CFC.

Ladies can I just add to this, I didn't receive a plan this time, I was given initial dates a few months back and when those initial dates came up and still no plan, I did my own plan using previous plans as my foundation. It was an oversight I got lost in the system, which was fine as I'm well seasoned. I don't mention this to scare you or create a panic if that's how your feeling stop this instant, this is my fourth trip, and the first time it happened, I'm sure Easter and holidays are to blame. I only mention this as if you are getting really close and you haven't received your plan then chase it up, however if its months away leave it be and let the coordinators deal with those who need it, they will appreciate it.

    baby dust to all

Hi Jodi thanks for giving them feedback. I found my 2nd trip the communication much better and that was because I always emailed the Dr as well. It is an extremely busy clinic and I think the nurses are under the pump. They are probably inundated with Aussies due to this wonderful thread which you created. My main frustration was organizing annual leave for myself and my partner from our employer as we both need to do it well in advance.

My donor also failed to make her Psychologist appointment so that put things on hold at least a week. At the end of the day it all worked out but not without lots of stress worrying about dates.

All the best for your transfer

about visa....no update...today is our donor egg collection so you can understand my frustration. I emailed clinic and told me make a plan B for me and I m not very hopefull for visa and might have to go for frozen embryo transfer later... But the biggest problem is medicines as most of them are not locally available and I need an other month to get them again from aboard . Also I dono what to do with medicines m already taking it.... Though clinic and nurture is a great support throughout... But the South African embassy is pain....

Enough about me... Sorry but dono what I will do anymore

Yay, Great news Tittle! great to be able to plan it all properly now (i.e. bookings).

Great number of eggs Biba. So frustrating for you not to have your visa though. Fingers crossed it gets sorted out soon.

Rainbow, congratulations, so happy to hear your all doing well.

Feather, twins how awesome, instant family.

Biba how frustrating, I hope the visa comes in soon.

January, getting leave was also discussed actually brought up by Liz as they have the same problem. They just need more staff.

My lady taxi driver Tsitsi, turned up this morning in her brothers car, it was a bomb and had no working seat belts, her cab broke down last night and rather than let me down or try and find a driver that wouldn't rip me off, she decided to chance me going in her personal car, she turned up early so I could have time to organise another taxi if I didn't feel comfortable going in her car. That to me was really thoughtful and of course I had her drive me. What a sweetheart. She didn't charge me as much as she would have in the taxi and was really lovely I of course paid her the full fare as she went out of her way for me. Whilst I wouldn't recommend going in her personal car, I would recommend her as a driver, she is a very honest Christian woman.

My one egg wasn't as good as it could have been and Dr Le Roux wasn't happy with it so he had another straw defrosted from my second donor and two nice looking eggs were put in. I'm now officially in the 2ww, I find out the verdict probably the day I go back to work after my 2+ years absence on maternity leave.

Interestingly enough, I did some research on adoption on Monday and Australia now has a policy with South Africa, it actually came into effect on Monday, but they are initially looking to place HIV kids, kids from an HIV mum or special needs kids.

Sorry if I have missed anyone, I am having real trouble posting things, it's taking 5 or 6 attempts so I end up giving up.
