Hello Lovely Ladies! I do not post a lot, but i read you and congratulations to those who received their good news! and my hugs to those who have not achieved what they hoped for

Quick update: its all happening for us! Donor is selected and confirmed, treatment plan is issued.

My new FS said that i need to do fluid sonogram before i go to Cape Town. He suggested that we move our cycle to June, but our donor cannot do it in June as she is already booked for another couple later. So we went ahead and booked our flight tickets, but waiting for my fluid sonogram before we book accommodation. Fluid sonogram is on 30 April. If i am good to go then its all fine if not, my hubby will fly to Cape Town on his own to give his sperm to create embies and they will be frozen until i am good to go.
By the way is fluid sonogram painful?
Has anyone done it before? I have done 8 cycles with DEs (2 different known donors over last 6 years) and no FSs ever asked me to do so.

Fingers crossed its all fine!! and then i will be looking into booking accommodation (mind we are suppose to fly on 10 May, so close!!!)

Any suggestions from those who already been there on accommodation? Nothing extavaganza, but also do not want any cheap and not comfy...

Our donor hasn't been screened yet but the people we are going through here have suggested 8th July as the date we would go over. So still to have all of that confirmed. I would be seeing Dr Wisweidel (think that is his name.) on the 9th. I will only have my fiancé with me for a few days and then I'll be on my own. Thinking I'm best off to find accommodation with a kitchen so I can prepare my own meals, as I won't want to be out wandering around getting dinner.
It doesnt seem to be controlling DW's hormones, she is still teary all the time

Our donor had her screening on friday, and it looks like we need to be in cape town starting 4th august, we will probably just miss you! We would have liked to catch up! (still waiting on final plan though so it may change)

GirlfromSydney - congrats on confirming your donor. Can't help you with the fluid sonogram though but good luck. We are in Cape Town at the moment and are staying at The Sugar Hotel. I highly recommend it. It's a small boutique hotel with only 7 rooms so the staff really look after you. They booked all our tours for us and picked us up from the airport and will drop us back. Breakfast is included every day which is yoghurt, fruits, breads and pastries and a cooked breakfast of your choice. Free unlimited wifi also included which is really helpful. We just use Facebook to make free international calls from our room.

Its a 15 minute walk from the v and a waterfront and 15 mins to long street and the city. Heaps of restaurants to choose from within walking distance and we have walked as late as 10pm and felt perfectly safe. There's a woolworths and a spar also for groceries. It was $160 a night not sure if that's in your budget. Taxi to the clinic was about R300 return and they wait for no charge. But there are plenty of hotels to choose from.

    hope that helps.

Thank you ladies for all the well wishes. The clinic will be calling us tomorrow to update on what's happening with the little embies. Fingers crossed they are all growing strong. I've been surprisingly calm over this whole time just concentrating on relaxing and having a good time.

Had our safari today at Inverdoorn. Wow! I highly recommend it. It was amazing. Saw all the animals up close. Only thing they don't have is leopards but got up close with the cheetahs so happy anyway. All the animals were just beautiful. I'm still buzzing.

Welcome to all the new ladies here. This place is such a wealth of information and encouragement. Without them I wouldn't be here today.

Hi here girl from Sydney... I'm an old bondi girl from a few years back too....
I had a fluid sonogram (thinks it's called a hysterogram). It is uncomfortable.. There is no two ways about it. But you are able to take something around half an hour so so beforehand to ease the discomfort.
It gives a much better picture of what is going on inside. I had to have one as I'd previously had surgery for a septate uterus.

As for accommodation in ct, there is a good website called airbnb.co.za. It's a bit like the SA version stayz.
We will be in CT from 8th of May through to 20th so it would wonderful to catch up. (I think sunflower11 will but there too around the same time)??
We are further up the hill from the sugar hotel in a private apt. We did the hotel thing last time and decided on more privacy this time around. Accom is very cheap at the moment as the rand is v high against the $$$$.

Hi – thanks so much for the welcome.

Patsy – Hi Patsy. We are looking at EDSA, Gift ov Life, Nurture and AbabySA at the moment. Good luck with your journey too

Hope – I am so sorry for your BFN.

January – thank you for adding us “newbies” to the roll call.

MrsErin – thanks for the welcome. Hope you donor is Ok to go ahead now. Happy anniversary!

Em – Hope your bleeding has stopped. It seems quite a few ladies have bled but have gone on to be OK. None the less would still be scary.

Esperenza – what a great result for you.

I have a question. I have “slightly activated” NK cells. My FS (who doesn’t believe in them) told me I don’t need to worry about this. I know ladies who have high NK cells get treatment. Do you think I should worry about this for DE? Has anyone else had “slightly activated” NK cells and had treatment?

Luca I had NKC and did both prednisilone (Orally) and intralipid (by drip at CFC). Some Drs don't believe these treatments help but my Dr in Melbourne believes they assist so I decided to cover all bases and do them - particularly given that we were going to the trouble of travelling to SA to use donor eggs. My treatment resulted in my son being born after 10 unsuccessful Ivf rounds. Good luck.

Thank you Helonweels and Esperanza for your advises. will have a look, althought The Sugar Hotel looks beautiful we hoped for something cheaper. probably will look at service appartments.

Luca, my FS does not beleive in Nk cells either. I did last 2 cycles with DEs on prednisolone and clexane, one cycle ended up in pregnancy, but I had to do d&c due to no hearbeat (trisomy disorder), another cycle - i did not get pregnant at all, all my previous cycles i did without prednisolone and clexane, got pregnant once and had a miscarrige (unknown reason). I am a bit worried too, will ask my Dr at Cape Town clinic when i get there (hope it wont be too late).

What are your thoughts ladies on NK cells?
