Wishmeluck - congrats!!!!! Henry is gorgeous. Such a miracle, isn't it? A true blessing.

Laned - happy birthday to your little one - I can remember reading about his birth last year and wondering if that would ever be me, writing that. Congrats!!

Esperanza, best of luck in SA. They're great at the clinic.

Yeh I know what you mean. This early. Maybe it's just to start controlling our hormones.
Our donor hasn't been screened yet but the people we are going through here have suggested 8th July as the date we would go over. So still to have all of that confirmed. I would be seeing Dr Wisweidel (think that is his name.) on the 9th. I will only have my fiancé with me for a few days and then I'll be on my own. Thinking I'm best off to find accommodation with a kitchen so I can prepare my own meals, as I won't want to be out wandering around getting dinner.

Hi all, well I have had a very full on night with a pretty major bleed and bad craming/big clots, thankfully my OB could fit me in this morning for an urgent scan. I honestly thought I'd miscarried last night and had resigned myself to hear that news today, but there was a litlle bean there with a heartbeat, it's measuring behind a bit though. I've been put on bed rest until the 5th - have another scan on Tues at my old IVF clinic where they are used to measuring much earlier pregnancies than my OB who normally wouldn't see me until 10 weeks.
cross everything for me girls and bloke!
    Em xx

Emski - I know that having a bleed is terrifying... I felt the same way when I had mine at 6-7 weeks. If they saw a heartbeat that is wonderful - could they see where the blood was coming from? Did they reassure you that it wasn't around the baby. My IVF specialist here in Australia also told me that it is very common with women who are taking clexane and unfortunately what would be spotting for most women, can be a really significant bleed for those of us using clexane.

Try to think positive - and rest up.

    Hi Em

Really sorry to hear about your ordeal last night. From the heartbeat it sounds like you have a brave little battler in there.

Thank goodness you got the scan today. I guess next Tuesday can't come quickly enough. I really feel for you Em - how frustrating and worrying- everything crossed

    Hi everyone.
I hope you don't mind me jumping into your thread but I've been quietly reading and waiting to pluck up the courage to join in, so nice to find so people in the same boat, as it were.
I'm 45 and my husband are I have made the decision to try IVF overseas using an egg donor. I've done a lot of research (particulary on forums here) and the Cape Fertility Clinic in Cape Town seems to be highly recommended. Has anyone had any experience of the clinic?
I got in touch and they sent me a huge bunch of information including a list of medical tests my husband and I need to supply. Can I ask where most people went to get their tests done? Ie, did you go to your GP? Or elsewhere?
Thanks for your help and positive thoughts for your own journeys...I've been really inspired by reading some of the stories on here. Thanks all.

Wishmeluck - congratulations. He looks beautiful. You must be so proud.

laned - happy first birthday for your little one. Time certainly flies.

Em - so sorry about your scare. I hope it's smooth sailing for you here on out.

Biba - fingers crossed you get your visa very soon.

Rainbow - so close for you now. How exciting.

KLM - yes I wouldn't worry about the pills as you have time yet. Just to let you know I has breakthrough bleeding for being on only active pills for so long so don't worry about that too.

AFM - had our first lining scan yesterday and everything is looking good. Lining at 12.5 and donor has lots of eggs apparently. Fingers crossed they are goodies. We are about to go out on the HOHO bus today and to the gardens etc.

Good luck to everyone prepping their journeys.

Hi patsy - welcome This thread is a huge wealth of information and the ladies here are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I'm in Cape Town at the moment and had my first visit to the clinic yesterday. The staff are very friendly and it's really professional. I'm with dr Wiswedel and his assistant Cyndi. He is certainly a character. Very easy to talk to and gave us his personal mobile number to call whenever we need. But I've heard all the drs are fantastic. Just keep in mind they are extremely busy, and might not always get back to you ASAP. Any questions you need answered promptly email the Dr and cc the assistant. Seemed to be the quickest.

we took a taxi to the clinic from green point and he waited there for us for an hour for no charge. All up cost us r360, so about $40 return.

forgot to add. We did all our tests through my reproductive endocrinologist who was looking after me before we decided to do overseas ivf. If you can't find a specialist most gps should at least help you get all the test referrals at least and you can order medication through an overseas pharmacy. But my RE was more than happy to help me.

    Where abouts are you located?
