    Default Nail Polish in C-Section

Tomorrow is my last 'free' day before my C-section on Tuesday next week! I will have both my boys looked after and have a few hours to myself and thought I might get a pedicure.... but then I wondered if I'm allowed toe nail polish in theatre, I have googled and there are mixed reports... I'm having my C-section at the Mater Mothers and no one has mentioned anything about it and it's not in the handbook they gave me. Advice please ladies!

I had mine in Logan and they tried sooo hard to get my acrylic nails off and they took my toe nail polish off and it was gross as!! If you get a pedi do gel cause nail polish remover won't get it off 😜

No nail polish because they measure oxygen saturation through a pulse oxy which is the clip thing on your finger and if they have to your toes. Nail Polish can and any other coverings can interfere with readings.

In my 34 week app they said no, not to have it. But when I had an emergency CS a week later (and still have it on, wasn't expecting to go so soon!) they didn't take it off they didn't even notice or comment come to think of it.

Pedi you can colour, mani just get clear. They will want to check oxygen saturation via your finger nails so best not to colour them but pedi's you can do as you please!

I only had nail polish on my toes and they made me remove it prior to my c-section. Not sure how I managed to paint my own toe nails though ha ha ha 😃

As a midwife we get all woman to remove toe and finger polish before theatre. In case of emergency we need to see colourings in nail beds etc as well as monitor oxygen so it's a no go at our hospital. I would say don't get it.

Amazing how different OB's/hospitals are! I was 'advised' to get one by my OB as I would looking at my toes for a while while they did the epi and spinal!
