Point was this was meant to be a sure thing in it's current form. The PPL has had speculation and iffy if it even has enough support

yes even in a different form I'm not sure an amended PPL would go through.
Maybe they will succeed in extending the current one to 26 weeks + super on top. Which would be awesome!

The proposed PPL is supposed to be funded by tax on companies right? Does anyone know how it would interact with existing company paid maternity leave?

yes it's supposed to be fully funded by a levy on big companies. The coalition is yet to publish the funding details though...

it was mentioned at some point that the new scheme would override any other employer funded parental leave - but it was a while ago and they haven't mentioned it again (they probably have bigger battles to fight!).
there are high chances that most employers would just stop their own schemes (or maybe offer a top of for their employees earning over the threshold).

Oh that's interesting... Can they just stop if it's part of the employment agreement though?

I heard they were going to pass legislation to override company EBA.
Not sure how constitutional that is though

yes there is something in the constitution that allows for that.
I can't believe they'd be willing to go there though...??
