Default New here and feeling lost after 5 IUI cycles and 2 losses...

    Hi Guys,

Just looking for some support from ladies maybe going through the same thing

I'm 29 and my husband is 28. I have mild PCOS and don't ovulate, sperm is always great so no dramas there!

We've been trying for nearly 3 years now and it's been nearly a year since we started our IUI journey and some days it seems like we just never get anywhere.

We've been told by our doctor that IVF is the next step but my husband is happy to continue with IUI.
Since we started last year, we have had 2 miscarriages with no obvious explanation - I'm sure any of you who have been through that will know that it's sometimes hard to pick yourself back up emotionally.

I guess I'm just looking to chat with y'all as chatting with fertile friends always feels like they just don't get it as much as they try to, bless them!

Happy to hear from anyone x

    Bonnie

Hi there, I'm new here too. My DH and I are both 34. We have a gorgeous 3.5yo DD conceived on our first ever attempt at IUI, after TTC for 2 years.

We have been TTC #2 since before DD was 2 but it has been a bumpy ride. We tried naturally for a while and then moved on to IUI again. We were lucky enough to conceive again on our first attempt at IUI, but is MC at 8weeks Since then I had a D&C after the MC, had a cancelled IUI cycle, had large cysts removed and was also diagnosed with endo and had that removed at the same time. We have done another 2 rounds, with the second IUI having been done today... so we are now in the TWW.
I am keen to move onto IVF if this round of IUI does not work but like you my husband does not seem so keen.
Good luck with your TTC journey.
    Stacey

    Hi @thugwife.
Sorry to hear your story. Big hugs.

We've been trying for three years also. On our second round of IUI now(7dpi).

Feeling a bit the same, IVF is such a huge step up from IUI. My DH is mostly worried about how super hormonal I'll be. I'm worried about the whole egg retrieval thing! So we are still hoping that this IUI thing will work......but the odds aren't great. And the FS said a max of 4 cycles.

@millysmumma so good to hear a positive IUI story. But sorry to hear of your mc.
My IUI was on the 27th March....! We are testing buddies!

Hugs to you. Both. Do you have plans for your "next steps"?

It's hard to both be on the same page isn't it? I find it hard to convey my feelings sometimes and know it's just as hard for my husband. I've always wanted to move forward to ivf but he's always been worried about money. Luckily our doctor at the wesley (Brisbane) has just opened a low price ivf clinic on the Northside that we'll move onto if this 6th cycle doesn't work out. I have a good feeling about this one though so fingers crossed.
If it's money your dh is worried about, have a look into the low priced ivf, amazing!

Today was our 6th iui cycle and we both have a good feeling about it. Weirdly enough (if you believe this sort of thing) I had a reading done yesterday, tarot cards and numerology etc (I'm so ewy at of a sceptic) but she said my number for the year was 6 and when I realised today was our 6th attempt, it felt exciting!
hoping the positive vibes bring some luck our way!
if this cycle doesn't work we'll be moving onto ivf at myivf at north lakes, on brisbane's north side.
I too am worried about egg retrieval as I had horrible after effects from a salon hysteogram but have been assured it's nowhere near as painful.

Ill keep keep you guys posted!
let me know how your two week wait goes xoxoxox

    Hi
I just wanted to jump in to ask you ladies why it's was that you chose IUI over IVF?
Was it solely a cost thing?
    Thanks

For us it was advised. Our specialist had no reason to think iui wouldn't work so advised that it was the best step and would keep costs down.
He did say that after 3 we should move on to ivf but because we had 2 successes (then losses but still a success) we thought we should continue for a couple more and my dh feared the costs of ivf - we're now not so worried after finding the low cost clinic our specialist runs.

    Thanks for the insight.
I only ask as the price difference at our clinic isnt really that huge. So I just wondered if people chose IUI for other reasons

I haven't done IUI but I have had 2 miscarriages with IVF. Have you had any tests for the cause of the miscarriages? There are many things that can cause them and many are easily treatable too. For me, I have high NK cells which is an immune system issue, easily treated. (I'm also older and that doesn't help me, but not an issue for you)

It could just be very bad luck or it could be a very treatable thing!

It sounds like you can get pregnant relatively easily with IUI. That's great. I hope you get to the bottom of the cause of your losses and on to a successful pregnancy.
