"Mr Bowen gave the go-ahead for further consideration of granting residency, subject to health and character checks and signing an Australian values statement.

It was a year before the matter was sent back to Mr Morrison. While the other requirements had been met, Ms Park had not obtained an assurance of financial support and Mr Morrison refused to exercise his powers to allow her to stay."

Not sure how I feel about this story. Obviously it is terrible for the family but surely there is more to it. Immigration can often look like the 'bad guy' but if they excused everyone who didn't follow the correct procedure they would be inundated with cases like this one. We went through this with dh. He came over on a holiday visa, then was granted an ' intention to marry' visa or something like that and we had 7 months to get married. That was 9 years ago and they were very clear with the expectations and outcomes if we didn't follow what was required.
We followed the procedure to a tee and have had no issues. As I said I do feel for the mum and It doesn't sound like it was handled in the best way. There is no 'grey' with immigration but it's that way for a reason.
