It breaks me up every time i read about what he did to his previous victims and Daniel. And i don't believe he killed Daniel the way he said in his confession. The monster will never admit what he actually did to that poor child. Going by his previous victims, I hate to imagine what Daniels parents are going through with the thoughts running through their mind of what most likely did happen to their beautiful boy.

I feel with this lenient justice system we have, he'll be let out after 20 years, Hell maybe even sooner because of 'good behavior' ... he'll be free in his 60s and that is not that old. He'll be deprived and desperate to strike again. I feel personally in cases where there is absolutely 100% proof he did it (a confession to the under cover cops) then we should bring in death. But it wont happen. The killer has more rights than the victim.

I feel the judge did have some powerful things to say to him in the courts, which is all good and all, but i don't feel she exercised her power to what she could have given him to the full extent and went easy on him. Parole after 40 or 50 years would have been better, so at least if he would be let out he'd be a frail old man. A man is still very strong and capable in their 60s. A child can at least get away easier from an old man.

Ugh this whole thing is just horrendous. I hope poor Daniel can now RIP. And his parents are able to find some peace now with at least some sort of justice being served, even if it isn't harsh enough.

On 60 minutes tomorrow night they're doing a special on it.

    .
Our justice system just doesn't have such lengthy sentences, unfortunately.

I read an article last night and it doesn't sound good behaviour is too likely. Someone who had been in remand with him said that he is a smart @rse and very antagonistic. The fact that he has been labelled as 'bash on sight' may mean he is never integrated with the rest of the prison population but if he is I can't imagine he will last too long.

I have lost my daughter and I feel sure that I am unfortunately not in the minority. It has been reported to the police but she has not made a statement due to our ridiculous lenient sentences and does not feel she can relive the horror he put her through. I would gladly sign a petition to change our laws. The anger and torment I still feel is consuming me everyday. I too have read the sexual offenders register and am disgusted in the repeat offences and obscene light sentences handed out. Our children deserve so much better. My daughter says "my life is ruined".
@Cam019, I am so, so sorry your daughter had to go through that. How utterly heartbreaking for both of you.
I think you would definitely be right that there would be many more victims out there that have not been able to report assualts, or like your daughter, not be able to make a statement. It would have to be bl00dy hard to relive everything all over again only to see the person involved either get off, or receive a ridiculously lenient sentence.

While having a quick look around, I came across a recent article here in Tas about paedophile Christopher Wright. He has just been sentenced to only two years of prison for the exact same thing he was recently paroled on. He was sentenced initially to two years in Dec 2011, and was released early in September last year due to 'good behaviour'. The acts he committed happened in October last year...one month after being paroled.
I've not mentioned the charges, so please be aware before clicking on the links, as they are upsetting

@Kiplusthree, I can't believe you had to go through this as well. Just by being on here has made me realise the massive amount of people who have suffered some form of child abuse. I had no idea of the extent of the issue, and that's really sad as so many parents like me would be completely unaware.

I know that a high percentage are within the family and/or friendship circle, but looking at the amount of teachers, child care workers, clergy, and complete strangers on Mako is simply staggering. If that alone makes up a huge volume of people, but only a small percentage overall, then just how many are around us that we don't know about?

Has anyone else looked at their state on Mako, and had a shock?
The nightclub owner in my state done for rape of a patron after slipping drugs in her drink...he used to spend a lot of time with my flatmate and I, and regularly either would buy us drinks all night or slip us $50 for some. We were 19, and not exactly worldly, but we knew he fancied us and we played on it, thinking it was harmless fun. This was during the same period, at the same club, and considering we were there every Fri/Sat night, most likely on the same nights we were there. He'd also been to our house.
He ended up being convicted for seven different women.

The father of one of my first "boyfriends" (holding hands on the bus was the extent of it thankfully) who lived next door out in the middle of nowhere is one there. His victim was 10

I just saw this on the MAKO site and I am disgusted. There at so many people on that website that should be rotting in prison but like this animal get A $400 FINE!!! Why are those convicted of ANY crime against a child being given a fine!

Like so many others I too am someone who had my world turned upside down at age 9 because of the selfish disgusting actions of one pig! But as a pp said I have decided NOT to report it because I can't relive those memories and run the risk of the person who hurt me in so many ways be given a "fine" or even a few months in prison! THIS HAS TO STOP!! As a mother now my job is to protect my daughter with everything that I have and make sure she never has to live through the torment that I do every day of my life.

@mamaof4, I noticed that Christopher pig was put on sex offenders register for 6 years? Why 6? How about for the rest of his life.
Jesus Christ, the law system here stinks. Absolutely no justice for victims sometimes, especially when it comes to cases of child abuse/rape.

Just to put things into perspective, although that is a very long list, not all attackers are on there, not even all convicted. (Just looked, mine isn't mentioned at all)

Ok, so I would like to chat personally with anyone here who wants to help me organise this.

Ive been brainstorming how and in what order to do things - and my mother has my eldest two now at her place watching dispicable me in the air conditioning while my yungest has just had his bath and gone down for a sleep (big love heart eyes)

I think a March is a great idea -- Lets lock that in as a must but I think it should be a bit down the track and after a few other steps are in place.

Firstly, I would like to fill the page with a community. To do so, I would obv like lots of likes/shares and for people to get active in getting the word out. I also want to establish a group of us who will work together to make this happen.

I mean REALLY make this happen, at the end of this, I want us to be celebrating the laws we've made pass!! (By that stage I think we should all put in and have a huge party)

So- Whos going to be with me on the, I guess you would call it committee? Please get in contact.

Once I have a group willing to work together, I want to get brainstorming: Here are some of the things I would like answered:

What exactly do we universally agree on wanting to change? What specifics are we demanding (remember, as hard as it will be - this has to rationally based and about protecting our children - not getting revenge. We need to be taken seriously. For every thing we want implemented we will need strong argument to support - so its something that needs to be widely discussed and considered.

Who do we go to to propose a new bill? Is there someone already working on something like this we can talk to - How do we get their attention? (ie: large facebook group, articles, advertisements, direct contact: ie e-mails, phone calls?

How will we organise the March? I can run it through my publishing company but what kind of insurance will it need? Will we need sponsors? How will we promote and advertise it? Where will it be? When will it be? etc

As for promotion of the initial plan: I have a publishing company and magazine due for launch/release on 1st June: It is going up in a poster at the Hyperdome shopping centre and will also be marketed online through various sources and possibly up on amazion - I could include a large add about the page, bill and march on the FRONT INSERT of the magazine.

Thats just something I personally can do, is there anything like it others personally can do? Please speak up!

What other barriers are in our way and how can we break through them?

I will write the new thread now and ask mods to pin it, but Im a little afraid they wont like it because it links to a page. How can I persuade them to pin it anyway? Possibly get them involved in the march as a sponsor or marketed as the "birthplace" of the idea perhaps?
