    It is from the sitcom Acropolis Now. It was pretty big in the early 90's. i think it must be a carry over from that.

    "cut your nose off despite your face" kind of makes sense...like you would take something away despite actually needing it. I know it's not right, but anyhow.

    I was asked the other day who my "obsterdontist" was... I assume they would look at unborn babies teeth?

    I say it without trying to be correct, it's kind of funny. Perhaps it's similar why other people say it. (However it's quite likely they don't know the difference between embarrassment and embarrassing).
