I agree mamaof4...how many suicides does it take before any form of bullying becomes a criminal law?

    RIP Chatlotte.

Very sad news. I hate bullying!

I think it's also a timely reminder how people need to also be a bit more sensitive to others, especially online like BH. A lot of the time people may not think they are being a bully, but it comes across that way. I have seen it many times on BH threads where a bunch of people have the same opinion and almost attack an OP. I myself have experienced this.

I know in charlottes case it was different and clearly bullying but we need to remember we don't know each other and a lot of us are going through some very tough times, and a few words which come across too harsh or words which comes from a group can really hurt and affect us. We are all sensitive to these things at time and some are stronger than others. Just a thought...

Very sad to see and read this news. It's tragic that she felt she needed to take her life. I hope she's not hurting anymore and finds peace now.
My thoughts are with her family and friends. RIP Charlotte

This is really sad and I don't understand how people can be so nasty.

In saying that though, why didn't she just get off the computer, close her account, shut down the computer or block people? It just seems strange that she would continue to read the troll comments.

Most trolls are teenagers too that really are little ****s and things they say should be disregarded because they are only kids.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a dig at her actions or how she delt with her problems,, but Even when she had an interview with 60 minutes, they said to her "Charlotte, why don't you just stopping reading the comments and you won't be upset by them" and she really had no answer, she couldn't help but read them. It's almost like she wanted to hear it all.

Again, im not picking at her and I too am very saddened by this.. There just a lot of missing pieces that just don't make sense.

I got bullied my WHOLE school life. I had msn and that was a way of being bullied back then. I ended up blocking my bullies. My mum always said why go on looking for trouble (her words to me).

Have you ever been a victim of bullying? Why should anyone lock themselves out of a normal life because of 'trolls'? It's the bullies who need to get off the pc's.
Arghh, this comment make me angry. My teen dd is bullied at school...so she should stop going to school?

Very true SAgirl. It can be hard as our tone of voice doesn't always come through, and something said in jest or sarcastically can come off completely differently to what was intended.

IRL I'm quite sarcastic with a strange sense of humour, but also painfully shy and easy to take offence. Combined with the fact I know I'm stubborn and have to be right (seriously bad habit!), I can argue till the cows come home.

It doesn't always come over the way I intended online.

If I ever said something that unintentionally offended or hurt someone, I would be terribly embarressed, but I would hope they pointed it out to me as I have foot in mouth disease lol. DH often does

This deliberate, designed to hurt abuse however is just so shocking, and seems to be happening to so many people on such a large scale.
I mean, I fully admit that I watch stuff such as MKR and say 'OMG, David is such a tool' and cheering when Kelly gets shot down in flames, and thinking its great when the nice teams do well. But the direct, personal attacks like Tully got on BB just left an awful taste in my mouth.

I know reality tv is based around the villans, and that they pretty much know that public perception of them will be skewed to whatever the media has labeled them as. But it goes too far.

My eldest DDs mood depends on what is being said on FB, snapchat, or whatever the current app is on her phone. And thats from her friends. I dread the day one of my kids gets bullied online, as it seems a matter of when, not if.

Yes this. I didn't really know or follow Charlotte Dawson, but I was aware of her through a thread on here once and in the news.

It doesn't matter what someone's personality is - that does not make them a 'target' and that's a sorry excuse for vile online bullying behaviour. I see a lot of passive aggressive (including clique and exclusion behaviour) on this forum and it's very different from having a strong opinion on certain topics. It's very clear and is IMO easily on par with outright verbal bullying. Hopefully this beautiful woman's story sends a strong message to those people who knowingly do this online.

May she finally rest in peace.
