Default Need ideas - employee newsletter

I've put my hand up at work to compile a monthly newsletter

I'm actually looking forward to it as it's been quiet at work lately.

Most of it will be directly related to the business, but I want to include some fun stuff too. Maybe a monthly 'get to know you' type feature where we choose an employee and ask them some random questions?

If anyone has seen some features on other newsletters that they think are fun/cool, please share!

I'm also wondering what the best program would be to format it? I only have the basic windows programs like word, excel, powerpoint etc. I'm sure my employer would be happy to purchase an appropriate software program if need be.

how big is the audience for the newsletter.? Perhaps a trivia spot, or crossword. I would be cautious about sharing too much personal info, but just casual general knowledge would be fine. Good luck. Marie.

From my experience get to know you can get tricky once all the volunteers have had their turns.
What about recipes, fun facts, celebrity guess who

Roughly 120 employees - mostly blue collar workers.

I like the idea of a trivia question spot. A recipe might be cool too

If I did a 'get to know you' spot, I'd keep the questions fun and impersonal.

Our newsletter we used to do a "5 questions with xxx" - & ask silly things like first car, favorite band, etc - light hearted fun.

We used to also have an "around the nation" where we'd put in a sentence or two about each of our offices, so ppl knew what was happening outside their world (if you're located in the one city, then you could do this by different department??)

We also had a little competition each month with a movie ticket as the prize -- things like "put a caption to this photo" or "pick the winning margin of this football game" etc - that was always a bit if light hearted fun....

Trivia, did you know type stuff, captions or comics relating to the industry, recipes. I have popped all these kind of things in our newsletter. Also birthdays, special dates for the month. Even ask if anyone wants to contribute. They may have seen something that would be appropriate
