Ertgirl, sorry to read that! I'd be really hesitant too in your situation. I'd talk to your FS if things haven't improved by the next scan and make sure they are aware you can only afford one shot at this.. it may be that you might be better off cancelling, tweaking the protocol and trying again. I really hope things are looking better at your next scan.

I guess it's a real gamble. The FN, just said 'oh, next cycle could be completely different'. As though people just have a spare 15k to throw at an IVF cycle. As it is we've gone into debt to even attempt this cycle. I want to be wise & it's just so hard to know what is the right thing to do. I think it would be different if they could guarantee that there are eggs in those four follies, but it seems like a huge risk to take. As far as I know I'm on the highest dose of stims (450 puregon). It just seems so odd that in 3 years I've gone from a definite over responder to an under responder. The FS always said that my fertility wasn't in question, so I'm just shocked. I've had a chesty bug, is there any chance that could have affected my response? Thanks girls xx

Ertgirl, I don't think the cold would have anything to do with it. Was it a down reg cycle or antagonist?
My FS (the good one) had me on 150 of menopur in the mornings and 300 of gonal f at night which seemed to work better for me than straight high doses of puregon or gonal f, and it was a boost/flare cycle so a short protocol. I'm with you on being concerned not all those follies will contain mature eggs... who is your FS?

By the way, my follicle/egg numbers didn't chage that dramatically in the 3 years I was doing IVF ... my first cycle I got 9 eggs I think and the last 10... what's your AMH?

Our FS is Derek Lok, he's the go-to guy for male factor & obviously last time he got great results with me too. Just not sure how it works; at what point they decide to cancel for medical reasons ( which means we basically pay nothing)? I spoke to the nurse earlier in the week & she said that depending upon age & circumstance that they will go ahead with only 1 follicle. So I guess they will have no problem with 4. I've decided that dependant on tomorrow's US & BT, I'll get the FN to call the FS on our behalf. I really do trust Derek, but I'm not sure everyone involved understands our financial position. We have no assets, we live with my MIL because we can't afford rent & we are still in debt from all our previous IVFs. It's not a case of having money/savings & not wanting to spend them. We literally have no money. We're borrowing for this stim & then my DH is taking extra work to cover any frozens, if we got any. I'm trying not to worry, but just wanting to be prepared for tomorrow. Thanks for the responses, I really value the support & feedback xx

Interesting. My AMH is 4.something. The FS mentioned it was low.

Yeah it's on the lower end, mine was 10. Something. I really think you need to discuss this cycle with your FS... I don't want to be negative Nelly but if this us your last attempt you want to give it the best shot possible.
Thinking of you because this all sucks!

Ertgirl.... you certainly have something to cause you stress there - the financial strain is just immense - the amount of money we've spent over 9 cycles causes my DH particular stress so I try not to mention it to him! Your financial worries seem much more than some of us, so it's certainly something you need to consider carefully. I agree with Emski... the difference between all my cycles (see signature below) was nothing like yours - it was basically always dismal!! However, even though there were only 4 follies on your first ultrasound, your nexy one may pick up more. It is however definitely to do with quality, not quantity. Good luck xx

Thanks lovelies. My beautiful DH came home tonight & just held me while I had a cry. I really thought it would be so much easier this time round cause of DS. I admire you all who've done so many cycles & how generous you are with your care & encouragement.

The other issue is that DH had a testicular cancer scare a few years ago, we've been given the go ahead by his specialist, but there's always the risk we could spread cancer cells (& DH only has one ball anyway). But I'd hate to have him have his surgical sperm retrieval done if my eggs suck. I'm just feeling the weight of responsibilty.

I feel silly, because I know that we're still in there with a chance. Think the hormones are making me a bit crazy. Thanks for your support, it really helps xx

Oh my god @ertgirl that would be horrendously stressful, the financial part is just a huge amount of stress, to add insult to injury. I changed clinics after 3 cycles due to the cost. I'm sorry this is obviously a stupid question:- there are no cheaper clinics near where you live?
I now go through the hospital as a public patient. Long waits for appointments and very basic service but its about 1/3 of the cost. I've read of uber cheap clinics opening up in the past few years but I'm not sure if there are many around.

My partner also had testicular cancer and has one ball but I think all the issues are still on my side.........
