@BigRedV you can get tiny brushes to go into the straw. If you rinse them and give them a brush then into the dishwasher, they are fine

Every baby is different. Fusspots that they are lol.

My dd only would use old style mag mag spout cups similar to a bottle then progressed to the mag mag straw cups at 8 months but they have been discontinued (after wasting a lot of money in others lol) Now at 12 months she will use anything, spout or straw - she understand now. I prefer straw simply because dd doesn't have to tip it up to get liquid in ;she forgets and can be a bit unco.
I was surprised when she snatched my coke from Maccas and sucked it up no worries

I got dd to learn spout cups and normal cups (I don't like using these yet it's a lot of mess) in the bath. She loves bath water and could make a mess

I used Mag Mag by Pigeon as well, great for the progression thru the different stages. I'm sure you can still get them.

Yeah but the new style straw cup is apparently useless and too hard for even an adult to suck from (from the reviews I read anyway)- I found a website that was still selling the older straw ones (orange cup not clear) but are still interchangeable with the current bottle/spout/straw model

I did love how you changed the top the progress through the stages up to a normal cup- she was familiar with the cup so changing it to straw so super easy had no difficulties at all.

After 18mths the Mag mag wasn't holding enough. I'm using a Tommee Tippee Discovera two stage drinker now http://www.tommeetippee.com.au/products.asp?pk=2&seq=5. Before that it was the tommee tippee explora active. I found these were the only ones I could find that are actually leak proof. Still working on the regular cup at meal times but he uses this the rest of the day.

Or cotton buds work well too. I use them with a sunk full of dish water, and then into the washer they go.

The new style of mag mag are crappola compared to the old one. I ended up snipping the inside of the straw on the new one with nail scissors to make the opening bigger.

You can still get the old ones if you google search them and dont mind paying a bit.
