Default What antenatal class did you do? Do you think it was worth it?

I did the "Birth and Beyond" class at RNSH. I was supposed to have a natural, drug-free birth but ended up begging for an epidural and having an emergency Caesarean.

    What about other people?

My experience with antenatal classes was similar...all for a great natural birth yet mine ended with epidural and emergency c-sect. Nothing in antenatal class prepared me for that!

I did one through the local public hospital where I had my son. I wouldn't recommend it. I found the idea of labour/birth horrendous beforehand and even worse after learning about fourth degree tears, watching a birth video which made me want to vomit and seeing the size of the epidural needle. Ended up induced and had an emergency ceaser. This time around they offered to book me into a Caesarean birth class, I politely declined.

I was booked in to one but my son decided to come early. You should have seen the looks on the midwives' faces when I asked them to 'talk me through it' when it was time to push! I wish I had done a class earlier, as I am a bit of a control freak and it was scary not really knowing what was going on or what my options might be. As it was, they called me when my son was about four hours old asking where I was and why I hadn't called them if I needed to cancel the birth class! I figured their system would've been updated somehow, given it was in the same hospital and all...
