There are 2 bells that ring at DS school. One at about 8.40am which indicates that kids are able to play (before this- they must sit down due to no supervision), then the normal school bell at 9am.

Wow, I'm finding it really interesting how different the school hours and play rules are between schools. When I was a child it seemed all state primary schools were 9-3 but these days it's all over the shop.

Mine starts prep on Monday. Supervision starts at 8.40 and clas starts at 8.50. It's a pretty small window of time. They finish at 3pm.

Our school starts at 8.25.... It's supervised from 8.05. And kids there earlier than that automatically have to report to BSC and the parents get billed.

Same goes for after school. Supervised until 3.15 then any left over kids waiting for their parents automatically get sent to ASC and billed accordingly.

We don't have BSC at school, supervision of one teacher from 8-8.15am and they all sit under a pergola. From 8.15 to the bell at 8.35am they can play in the junior/senior playgrounds with teachers supervising each area.

Eta. I feel ok dropping after 8am for DS and DD together (prep and grade 2) but not earlier when there is no supervision or not either of them alone.
