Default Where has my milk gone?

I think my milk has gone :-( I never ever felt let down at all amd didn't have that over full feeling now my b00bs are just floppy. I am worried ds isnt getting enough as I feel I am having to top up more and more with formula. I took motilium I think it worked but made me excessively hungry where I would eat constantly. I am taking blessed thistle and the gp recommended alfalfa too. I made lactation cookies but they are soooo high in sugar!! I add brewers yeast to my cups of tea or my oats for breakfast. I was hoping to bf until ds wanted to wean. I offer the breast every 3 hours and ds takes it and feeds take about 20minutes each side. Ds gets both every feed. Is there anything else I can do? I dont want our breastfeeding journey to end just yet :'(

I should add our latch has been checked many times and is fine I now have nipples of steel! I have hypothyroidism and on thyroxine which concerns me that this is the reason my milk is so low

How is your DS in himself?

Without the formula top ups is he gaining weight? Having wet nappies? His happy self??

It could be that your boobs have just gotten this feeding thing and now there is no noticeable difference in full/empty.

I would do a day with as little top ups as possible and frequent feeds and just see how he is

Good luck, you've tried so hard for this, I hope you can keep it going

He is happy; gaining weight (around 100g a week it looks like) I get him weighed fortnightly and plenty of wet nappies. Its just by early afternoon when I feed him starts screaming after. I offer the boob again and he is so fussy he latches then pulls and kicks so I thought he may not be getting any milk come through. Without the topup I cant settle him. He has about 180mls of formula a day

My DD does this, the ABA website said bubs do this when they are overtired. Could that be the case with your DS?
I have hypothyroidism, I'm on thyroxine and I had the have motilium to get my supply established as well and until the last few day since DD has not been feeding every second hour my boobs felt the same as you described.
DD is now 13w and it's the only time I've ever felt full and I've never felt let down.
I'd say if he is happy and got plenty of wet naps he is doing fine.
Have you tried calling the ABA?

No I haven't called the ABA but will today to have a chat to them.

He doesn't like sleeping during the day so each nap time is a battle so maybe he is getting overtired. He only naps 20 to 40 minutes each time during the day

Oh lamabean, your bub sounds the same as mine!
I have to put her in the carrier to get her to have sleep during the day.
I bet you your milk is fine... Probably bubs is just beside himself as he is tired.
Have you tried carrying him to get him to sleep?
It's a pain but it's the only thing that has worked for DD and it's saved both our sanities! She is asleep on me now as we speak!

I do rock and cuddle to sleep. I haven't tried the carrier recently as the one I have is quite hot and uncomfortable for me. I will try focus more on sleep as opposed to topping up and see if that helps. And invest in a better carrier I think too

DS used to do the thrashing, kicking and pulling off and on in the evenings when about the same age.

As annoying as it was - the best way I found to feed him was to walk and feed, he would always feed like this for some reason!

And that stage lasted a couple of months and then settled. Was definitely when he was tired and just got a little over it, not knowing what to do with himself.

Tell me about it! With this heat I have sweat running down my back and baby's dribble running in between my boobs! Being a mum is so glamorous! For me I found I'd rather be hot and she be rested otherwise she is a terror from about 4pm onwards as she is exhausted!
She is such a happier baby for all the sleep.
