Default Applying for a new job

Just put in my application for a job across the other side of the country. It'd be a great opportunity to see and explore another part of Australia while possibly earning a very decent wage.

    I really want this job.

Anyway, if I get to the interview stage- it will likely be a phone interview- anyone have any tips?

Breathe! That's my advice for phone interviews! And try to slow your talking down.

I did a phone interview a few years ago, I was so nervous that I could hear my heart beating in my ears, I was talking way too fast and I wasn't breathing. Once I realised, I slowed my breath and was able to concentrate better and did really well. I progressed to face to face interviews. I ultimately turned the job down as it just didn't seem the right fit for me.

Good luck with it! What an adventure!

Great tip. I will remember that. the more organised I am, the less flustered I'll feel. I do have a tendency to talk a little too fast when I'm excited, nervous or flustered (even when typing!!!! ). Perhaps I'll wear my pj's- that's sure to make me feel more relaxed. The last interview I had, I actually took my shoes off underneath the table to help calm myself.

I'd be writing responses to classic questions down so you're prepared what to say.

I had an on the spot phone interview 2 months ago. It went well, but the answers were pretty hard to stuff up I got the job but it's an on-call job so when they have work or if they have work they'll call. Nothing yet so I've been applying elsewhere.

Job closed yesterday so now I'm waiting. They said I should hear within the next 2 weeks if I was successful in getting to the next stage. Fingers crossed!

    Good luck!

I also think smiling while you're talking helps- it relaxes you and you can hear it in people's voices when they're happy.

And def breathing; when I get nervous my teeth chatter & I look like I'm about to go into hyperthermic shock! haha it's so frustrating ://
