Default Running On Empty - Worst drought in 100 years.

*WARNING* The video contains footage of the devastation the drought has caused.

    http://youtu.be/vORQA87B-4s

~ The worst drought in 100 years, coupled with a heat wave and temperatures in the high 40s. It's a recipe for disaster and it's struck the heart of Queensland cattle country, with farmers now at breaking point and stock and wildlife dropping like flies.

It doesn't sound like the makings of an entertaining yarn, but it's actually an uplifting and timely story this Australia Day.

Queensland Weekender host Dean Miller spends a week with the Kinnon family out of Longreach to tell this story.

'Running on Empty' is a Queensland Weekender Australia Day special. A farmstay experience with a difference, as we pay homage to bush resilience despite an ongoing battle against the elements.

    Sunday, 26 January 2014 - 5:30pm, Channel Seven ~

It's very upsetting that our farmers are struggling and not getting the support they so desperately need!

I made a small donation through Aussie Helpers and will again next pay week.

    Every little bit counts!

Yep I'm waiting to have more funds to make a donation. It's so heartbreaking.

The government needs to step in & help somehow, screw the $200 nepotist marriage counselling voucher, give that to the farmers! Give them hay, give them rebates on water trucking, give them discounted diesel... Anything to help.

    It's incredibly distressing.

How very sad.. and worse that, although I do struggle to keep up with current affairs when I'm not working (seems to be that the tv is always on kids shows, not news?!) that I didn't know things in central QLD were so bad.

Down here, we're struggling to keep SPC alive and running. (Canning company- baked beans, spaghetti, preserved fruits etc) of course, it doesn't have the horrible affect of live stock dying... but we did go through that horror in the last drought down here. (My father ended up selling all his cattle and has been strictly a grain/crop farmer ever since)

Hopefully some rain will come your way sometime soon!!

And yet the govt is always the first to send millions overseas when there is a natural disaster. It's so pathetic and makes me furious! It's like they're trying to prove a point to other countries how generous we are, yet fail to look after their own.

This is so sad that our farmers are struggling. They need more help from the govt. I have a lot of respect for farmers.
