    Our school has made it part of the official uniform to have the childs FULL first name and last initial embroidered on the outside of their hats . I and many other parents have refused to comply but so many have done it. Schools reasoning ... reduce number of stolen/lost hats.

    OMG who cares about a lost hat in compared to a childs safety.
    Maybe you should talk to community liason officer at your local police station and get them to talk to or writte a letter to the school.

    Our school embroiders the name on the hat before they will even give it to you. And on the jumpers as well. But they do it in the same colour as the hat so to see it you have to peer pretty closely. Oh, it's just the surname as well!

    Our school has a white paint pen that write the name on the inside crown. It works fantastic.

    I'm not going to worry about it. My kids have more of a chance of someone finding out their name by listening to me scream at them or her friends call out to her. No code word either as she would just tell everyone.

    Personally I feel the risk is too small to stress about, I know that others feel differently, but that's my opinion.

    My kids have personalised beach towels - what a godsend! No lost towels in over a year!
