Default 5.5w and only a sac on u/s. Normal?

    Hey everyone.

Im just hoping for lots of positive vibes. I had a scan on monday and was dated as 5.5w preg but the lady said she only saw a sac. She had the worst bed manner so didnt elaborate much except to tell me its either to early to see a baby/hb or it could be ectopic.

Both my other kids I was around 6-7w before I got a scan.

Im a little worried. Especially when the lady was so withholding of info.

So who else has had this? Im not going for another scan til wed next week.

    TIA.

My sister had an ultrasound around the same time and all that could be seen was the sack. She had another ultrasound on the weekend and there was a perfect bean measuring to dates with a strong heart beat

I had a scan at 6+2 a few weeks back and the baby was barely visible and could only just see the heart beat so it definitely could have been too early for you to see something

Sorry you had a crappy sonographer though

Definitely most likely too early. I believe if it was ectopic she would have seen the sac in the wrong place.

I would recommend going back in 1.5 - 2 weeks.

At 6.5 weeks with dd I had to have an internal scan to find a heartbeat. She is now 9 months old.

    Good luck!

I would say too early, was it an internal? My Ob found my DDs hb at 8weeks but prepared me that it could be too early and he didn't usually do them then.

    Thanks ladies

    She did an internal scan.

I didnt see the monitor she was using so I didn't get a look at the sac.

Its so frustrating, she ignored half my questions and I left with worry.

Im going to get a scan next wed which will make me 7w so hopefully I have a better sonographer that can explain things better.

I just wonder why she would say it could be ectopic if there is a sac. I have no idea if it was in the wrong place.

Ultrasound techs seem to forget that they're dealing with people. I would say it's to early. I had a scan at 6+6 and she said it could be to early. You should see a hb at 7 weeks but you may not.

Best of luck, early pregnancy is so hard!

Eta: if she was concerned about an ectopic she should have done something then and there. I had a suspected ectopic and was sent straight to the er! If you are in any pain, you should go straight to er and tell them you have a suspected ectopic. You'll be seen straight away as they're not something to be messed with.

I had a scan at 5 weeks 6 days and we only saw a sac - so yes - normal!

The first scan I had last time was at 9 weeks, so 5 or 6 weeks I think is really early, but I just followed doctors orders and went for the dating scan.

Anyway, last week doc mentioned the possibility of "blighted ovum"... but thankfully, we had a scan today and saw a bub, now 11 weeks.

With DD2 I went at 5w3d and all they saw was the sac (I was going to rule out ectopic as I'd have two previously) but by 6w3d (I think? Maybe 5d) we saw a HB. So it definitely could just be too early!

    Sending you positive thoughts x

    Thanks ladies.
Fingers crossed it was just to early. Even the machine used was ancient so perhaps that had something to do with it too. The next 6 days are goong to draaaaag on
