How about you go for a swim and also book DH in to give you a 20 minute massage. Make that your top 2 priorities for the day!

    What a horrible situation OP.

I can't entirely relate, but about 10 years ago, my father told me that my grandfather (Mum's dad) used to molest my mother and her sisters when they were kids.

I have never been brave enough to ask Mum about it, and as my parents were divorced at the time he said this, and his source was my grandmother (my mother's mother - an alcoholic), I don't know either way if the news is real or not.

I don't see my grandparents - they live several states away - so my own daughter's safety isn't a concern here... and tbh, I'm not sure I want to know the answer.

Mum isn't the type to lay it all out in the table, so me asking her that would no doubt make her uncomfortable and either drag up some awful memories, or make her feel might stabby towards my father and her own (now-deceased) mother... neither of which would be great. I don't want to do that to Mum.

There's also the fact that I was allowed to sleep there, several times, without my mother present... just my brother, me, and our grandparents. If he HAD attacked her, and she still left us alone with him... I think I'd feel a bit... I don't know how to describe it, but I know I wouldn't be happy that she'd risk us like that... so given that, I feel that ignorance is bliss.

I know I'm kind of sharing my own crap here, but I wanted to relate to the difficulty you must be feeling inside your heart right now... because while I've never had it confirmed, I have experienced a bunch of really unwanted emotions about it all... a situation I never thought I'd have to even consider.

I'm sorry you're going htrough this, I have no idea what you should or shouldn't do... I have no advice... I'm just sorry.

Sorry I haven't been back to reply, thanks to all who shared their stories and gave support, I haven't been sleeping well at all since I found out this news, I'm so exhausted and baby is coming any day now.

When I'm in a better frame of mind I may come back and PM a few of you if you don't mind.

    Thanks again

I'm so sorry your are going through this.

So much things that went untold, it's good your mum finally spoke up and it might be the perfect time to end the cycle of silence, "self preservation", swiping things under the carpets. It ends now with this new generation about to be born. Let's put the shame and burden back to where it belongs : on the attacker's shoulders and not on your grand ma, mum, aunty or yours.

Yes I believe it would involve therapy/counseling and probably knowing more about what exactly happened. Such a horrible and tremendous process though
