Thanks for all the advice ladies, will start taking Metamucil. Midwife visited today and said we are both doing really great I am so happy to be at home and Lincoln has settled in well. He's only lost 209gms since birth and my milk should come in very soon so going well.
Dreamt I was having contractions and wok up to find they were real about 1:30am Sunday morning. Started using the app to time them, they were about 15mins apart. After about an hour and a half I woke DH to let him know and then I got up and watched tv while he slept some more. By 6am the contraction were 5mins apart and quite intense but I could still talk. DH rang the hospital who encouraged us to stay home. By this time my body had completely cleared itself out and the pain was getting intense, I had to just lie on my side on the floor and grab hold of things to squeeze as each contraction came. We decided to head to the birth centre at 8:45am.
When we got to the hospital we were shown to the birthing suite and had to wait for the midwife for about an hour. She gave me gas straight away which took the edge off a little. The midwife did an internal and found me to be 7cm which meant I could get into the water for my water birth.
After being in the water for a few hours contractions were coming hard and fast put pushing wasn't achieving anything. I got out if the bath to have another internal and I hadn't progressed. My waters were broken and I was given pethadine. I pushed for about an hour but nothing was happening and bubs heart rate was dropping during the pushing.
A team of doctors came in to make a decision. I was taken to another room and put into stirrups. Due to bub being a bit stressed and the heart rate not recovering fast enough after each push, they decided to use the vacume and do an episiotomy to get him out. After a total of 39mins of pushing out he came at an unexpected 9pounds! I held him for a couple of minutes before they took him away to check his breathing and give him some oxygen.
After being stitched up I got to have a long time if skin to skin. All in all a very long day but a great outcome. Not at all sad I didn't get my water birth. The staff were amazing.
