If you are on the drip no you can't go in the water. Some women go in to be induced and just having the gel inserted starts their labour so they progress naturally but if they break your waters and put you on the drip they have to monitor bubs heartbeat the whole time.

Nearly every woman I know who was induced also ended up with an epidural and syntocin drip. I've never heard of any of them having a water birth either... Which obviously wouldn't be possible in that situation.... I was not aware of any other reasons so that's interesting to know

I didn't have an epidural. They gave me the gel at night and said if labour didn't start (not common for it to but not impossible) that they would break my waters in the morning. I laboured for 3hrs before getting pethidine shot

My contractions started as soon as they broke my waters, 2 mins apart. I never needed the syntocin drip. I had no desire to do anything but curl up on my side in bed

I will discuss it all with my middy tomorrow. In the end it doesn't matter how bub arrives as long as they r safe and healthy

Channy sweetheart, can I please give you some very friendly advice? Try not to go into this with too many expectations of what it will or should be like...in so much as you can, try to "enjoy" the experience, as however bubs comes into this world, it will be a special and amazing (and probably scary) experience. As long as you and bubs are well looked-after, the delivery has been a success. If you have questions or concerns, ask the staff.
If you don't have a water-birth, I am tipping you will be just as thrilled when baby appears.

I remember when I was induced with Lucy, I told my midwife I was scared. She said that this would be one of the best days of my life, and that if I wanted to worry about something, that I should worry about paying my mortgage! It was very sweet, and...she was right. It was still overwhelming and not that comfortable...but it was certainly a great day in my life.

It will be for you too, however it happens.

    J xx.

    Beautifully said J.

Channy I'm sorry if I upset you. I didn't know until after they broke my waters and were putting the drip in that that meant no shower. I just wanted you to know beforehand. Hopefully you go into labour naturally and don't need to change your water birth but I still agree with J, no expectations.

I don't want to scare you either but I was induced at 7 days overdue with DD1. Looking back, I don't think my body was ready and even though I was on a drip and had contractions every 2 mins I never dilated. 12 hours later I had to have a cesarian. So be prepared for that possibility too. On the other hand, I was able to sit in the shower in between being monitored. This may not be the case with you but thought I'd offer another perspective. I wanted her out too!!!

J put it beautifully. Whatever happens, however it happens, you'll have a baby at the end. Hopefully it'll all happen naturally and you and bub get to experience the birth you want.
