Of course people think that taking precautions to keep your kids safe is what you do as a parent. And yes, some kids are killed or hurt because of genuine negligence from the parents. But what is to be gained by saying `this would never have happened if the parents had not allowed the kids in the toilet, instead of saying `this would never have happened if there had not been a rapist hiding in the toilet'.
The next kid that went in that toilet could just have easily been a 10 year old. Would that have raised such outrage at neglectful parents? When do we stop and say, OK, the only person who is at fault here is the person who committed the actual crime.
Of course it's the perpetrators fault
But why oh why let your child go into a public toilet alone?

This is about a 2 and 6 YEAR old, not adults. This is about a PUBLIC TOILET BLOCK not their home or their school. I'm sure their parents feel horrible BUT the this is a country with free speech and the op is allowed the have her opinion.

I personally would NEVER let my small children go into a public toilet alone, or walk to school alone and no I am never blind to the fact that anyone could hurt my kids. SO I take reasonable measures to make sure that they are safe.
    Thank you

Because people have said how upsetting you are being and you won't give it a rest.

You have no idea who these parents are either, but you have no issue ramming your opinions about their parenting down our throats.

You asked me a question, I responded. I have no problem with your profession, just your attitude. I don't think I could handle a teacher who judged every parent whose child was in an accident.

There is a huge difference between a 10 yr old and 2 and 5/6yr old!

Younger kids cannot protect themselves the way older kids can. But I personally still wouldn't let my 10 yr old go to a public toilet on their own. I'm no 'helicopter' parent, but I would go in, check who's in the toilet block first, if it was empty I'd give my child some space and I'd wait outside. Or if there were other mothers and kids in there I'd do the same.

My DH went to a public toilet when he was 14 and there was a hole in the cubicle wall (between two toilets) and an older man was looking through it! He asked my DH to do something inappropriate and DH, being 14, had the sense to scream as shout out for his dad who was waiting outside.
