Default No heartbeat on Doppler at GP at 11 weeks

    Hi ladies

I am currently 11+2 weeks preg and had a GP appt today where she decided to check for a heartbeat with the Doppler. She couldn't find a heartbeat and wasn't concerned at a and said it is a bit early still for a Doppler. I had a scan at 8 weeks and saw a heartbeat of 160 bpm so all looked good then.

So throughout the day my anxiety levels are increasing, particularly as I have previously m/c at 11 weeks. Have NT scan for 12+2 so another week to wait until I get to see bub again.

I'm just after some reassurance that 11 weeks is still to early for heartbeat on Doppler???

    Thanks

That's too early to find the heartbeat via a Doppler, my understanding is 14 weeks is the earliest (or most realistic expectation).

I'm surprised she even tried, knowing it'd be unlikely to find one and she would then cause you stress.

A fill in midwife at my OB's office tried to find a heartbeat at 13 1/2 weeks and couldn't. My OB then did a scan and all was fine.

Yep still too early! My hospital wont use the doppler until after 16 weeks just incase it is too hard to find and it causes stress. Of course there are some women who have heard the heart beat on a doppler earlier than others but majority wont hear anything until 14 weeks plus Dont worry yourself xo

Don't worry, it's too early! My first midwife appointment was at 13+6 and they wouldn't check because they didn't want to stress me if they couldn't find one.

Ok, thanks ladies. That certainly puts my mind at ease a bit!

I had hoped that it was just way to early.

She shouldn't have tried so early.
my midwife checked me at 14 weeks, didn't find it after a while.
i went to the go later that day and she found it.
Depends on the machine, where bubs is and if the placenta is in the way.

I know how anxiety is so wont tell you to relax but I know facts help....most doctors, midwives and hospitals won't try before 14-16 weeks....mainly to avoid unnecessarily worrying expectant mothers.
good luck with your scan next week

    Hi 2furbabies,

As the other ladies have said 11 weeks is way to early to hear with a doppler, I'm a midwife and there's no way would we would even attempt to listen at that gestation.
    Please try not to worry

We don't ever check for a heartbeat before 16 weeks in the antenatal clinic I work in, this is simply because it is way too hard to find a heartbeat sometimes and if you can't find it straight away it can freak some women out. I'm very surprised your GP even tried! I really hope they told you before trying how hard it can be. Please don't worry!!! I know it is easier for me to say that than it is for you to do it.

Good chance it was too early to catch it. Although pretty insensitive of your doctor to leave you a week to worry about it especially after a previous mc.
All the best op I'm sure everything will be fine 😊
