Default Nearly 4 and scared to be alone- Help!

Now I don't mean home alone, I mean at the table alone, in her bedroom playing alone, go to the toilet alone. It is driving me nuts!! Until few weeks ago she was fine, slightly anxious 3yo but normal argumentative 3yo. Now she is this highly scared anxious kid that I barely recognise and I don't know how to reassure her any more that she is fine and it's ok to sit/play in a room by yourself.

Hmm, has something happened recently to cause her to be afraid? I know this seems like an obvious question, but perhaps a scary movie she accidently saw, someone telling her an upsetting story (kids can be so imaginative!)...? She may have overheard a conversation or witnessed something upsetting.

I know as a child around 4-6 years old, if I ever overheard stories of break-ins or robbers, I would be terrified to be alone in any room in the house and would follow my mother around all day. The fear would fluctuate depending on other factors.

I have seen similar behavior in children around me, most of the time it was separation anxiety related, with a fixation on one caregiver. Does your daughter want you with her, or does she not care as long as she is not alone?

Again, an obvious question but have you asked her why she is scared?
